Many things happened at the end of the first season of House of the Dragon about the Targaryens, the most important was the murder of Luke Targaryen, by his uncle Aemond, while trying to return home after paying a visit to Lord Borros Baratheon, who is which ends up convincing Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen that she should go to war, and the second is something that happens with Daemon Targaryen.
As Rhaenyra commands her children to call their allies to remember their oath, Daemon has his quest, which leads him to a dark place in Dragonstone where he begins to sing a strange song and awaken a mighty dragon that had not appeared before. You have to remember that not all Targaryens have dragons, but all Targaryens have the chance to become riders, and there are many other dragons in the realm that is free to be claimed, and Daemon seems to have found a very special one, although not we know what his plan is yet.

A few chapters before the end, Daemon Targaryen discovered new dragon eggs, in addition, throughout the season it is mentioned that the dragons belonging to the Targaryens and Velaryon (Laenor had one) were not the only ones that existed, so it is not strange that Daemon is focused on them when the war is coming. Daemon seems to know perfectly well what he’s doing as he walks in the dark, carrying a torch to light his way and singing a song that seems to reassure, at least a little, a huge, terrifying-looking dragon.
That dragon is likely to play a major role in the war that is about to begin, but who is it and who is going to claim it? There are some theories about the identity of that dragon, there are those who believe that it may be larger and more powerful than Vhagar, but everything points to the fact that it may be The Cannibal which, according to the stories of George RR Martin, was a wild dragon that He lived in Dragonstone.
The dragon was known as The Cannibal due to having a “habit” of eating other dragons and their eggs and was one of three riderless dragons found in the Targaryens’ ancestral home (the other two with Gray Ghost and Sheepstealer). The cannibal is described as a large black dragon with green eyes it is considered to be the largest of the wild dragons, which makes it as powerful a threat as Vhagar (who has already shown that, from time to time, he does not obey his rider and does as he pleases). Furthermore, he is an adult and ancient dragon, existing since before the Jaehaerys I became king.
During the Dance of the Dragons, various characters try to reclaim The Cannibal, but that leaves many dead, so they eventually give up trying. This is one of the few dragons that survives the war and disappears after the battle, so it could be the father of Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons, it is not known where they come from, but it is believed that they were very old eggs and that they were connected to the dragons of the past.
