Are you ready, Game of Thrones fans? House of The Dragon will be the first spin off to emerge from the history of the 7 kingdoms that we met in the HBO series and this will focus on the history of one of the most powerful, important and interesting families in the series, the Targaryens.
After the end of Game of Thrones, HBO revealed that it already had plans to develop several series related to the series, but many of them were eliminated and in the end only one survived (at the moment). House of the Dragon would take us thousands of years in the past to learn the history of the warriors who rode dragons and the characters that eventually founded the powerful houses that came to fight for the iron throne, focusing mainly on the ancestors of the Mother of Dragons (Emilia Clarke) who conquered us all with her fight for the oppressed and her desire to regain the crown that belonged to her.
George RR Martin confirmed in a blog post that his most recent book, on the Targaryen story (Fire & Blood) was the inspiration for the new prequel series that HBO is developing, although he also revealed that this would only be a guide and could have some different details and characters.
Among the few details that have been revealed so far, the first images with the concept of art of the dragons that we can see in House of the Dragon were released. These dragons are different from the ones we saw in Game of Thrones, this is because this was the era in which they were commonly seen in the sky and the Targaryens were in charge of feeding, training and using them for battles.
In addition, HBO revealed a series of images on its Twitter account with which they confirm that the filming of the series has already begun. They don’t reveal many details of the story, but the actors can be seen preparing to perform their scenes and reading the scripts.
When House of The Dragon Will Release?
There is no release date for now, but Casey Bloys, HBO’s chief programming officer said “They’re in the breaking story room right now. I guess we’ll see it airing in 2022. Miguel Sapochnik who directed some of GoT’s best episodes, such as “The Long Night,” “Battle of the Bastards,” and “Hardhome,” and Ryan Condal will be co-showrunners for the series.
What is House of The Dragon About:
The Fire & Blood book covers 150 years and includes the rise and fall of many leaders in Westeros. Some sources told EW that the famous Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen Civil War that is mentioned in GoT and shattered Westeros, will be addressed at some point in the series.
According to what has been released, the series will present the conquest of Aegon 300 years before the events of the Game of Thrones series, spanning from the conquest of Aegon to the Dance of the Dragons, which is the civil war. Targaryen that was the beginning of the end of the dynasty and its reign.
The New Targaryens:

At first, it was reported that actor Paddy Considine, from The Third Day and The Outsider (one of the best HBO series today) had been cast in the role of King Viserys I, who was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed Jaehaerys. Targaryen, in the Great Council of Harrenhal.
George RR Marti n fans will remember that Viserys I ruled Westeros around 100 years after Aegon’s conquest. His sons, Rhaenyra and Aegon II, would eventually fight a civil war for his throne which became known as the Dance of the Dragons.
HBO also revealed that Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith would cast the series as some of the most important members in history. Cooke will play Alicent Hightower, the daughter of King Otto Hightower, Emma D’Arcy will become Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Matt Smith will become Daemon Targaryen, the warrior who rides dragons and is the younger brother of King Viserys.
The cast also includes Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), Steve Toussaint (It’s a Sin), Eve Best (Nurse Jackie) and Sonoya Mizuno (Devs). Ifans will play Otto Hightower, Hand of the King to King Viserys Targaryen. Toussaint joins the series as Lord Corlys Velaryon, better known as The Sea Snake, “the most famous nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros.” Best will play Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, a dragon rider who was “overlooked as heir to the throne in the Grand Council because the kingdom favored her cousin, Viserys, simply because she was male,” and Mizuno completes the cast as Mysaria. whose description reads: “Mysaria came to Westeros with nothing and has been sold more times than she can remember. She could have been weakened … but instead became the most trusted and unlikely ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne”.

- David Horovitch as Grand Maester Mellos– Voice of reason and trusted advisor to King Viserys.
- Graham McTavish as Ser Harrold Westerling– Ser Harrold has served in the Royal Guard since the days of King Jaehaerys; he is a paragon of chivalry and honor.
- Matthew Needham as Larys Strong– Younger son of law teacher Lyonel Strong, brought to court by his father.
- Bill Paterson as Lord Lyman Beesbury– Lord of Honeyholt and Master of the Coin in the small council of King Viserys.
- Gavin Spokes as Lord Lyonel Strong– Master of Laws to King Viserys and Lord of Harrenhal.
House of The Dragon Characters:
There are many characters in the story, but the book talks about 4 main whose actors have already been chosen.
- King Viserys I:The fifth Targaryen king whose reign was peaceful and prosperous until his death.
- Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen: chosen heir to King Viserys; a dragonrider who grew up expecting to become Westeros’ first ruling queen.
- Queen Alicent Hightower– Viserys’ ambitious second wife and Rhaenyra’s stepmother, who had three children of her own with the king.
