House of the Dragon Episode 4: Ending Explained! Here is What Happened In Fourth Episode?
A new chapter has arrived for fans of House of the Dragon, which this Sunday, September 11, premiered the fourth episode with the continuation of the story of the Targaryens, with Rhaenyra and Viserys facing new problems with the Kingdom and Daemon. Tonight’s footage featured several contentious moments related to incest, as well as exploring larger conflicts brewing in King’s Landing. Attention! House of the Dragon Episode 4: Story Recap
Picking up the narrative shortly after the events that occurred in the third episode, House of the Dragon shows the long-awaited return of Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) to King’s landing. After defeating the Nutrigranchi and ensuring the respect of the triarchy of Free Islands, the Dragon Prince has been appointed King of the Narrow Sea and returns to his brother to try to be readmitted to court. While Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) finds herself having to choose her future husband in the shortest possible time, her uncle will reveal his interests and concoct a very original plan to be able to reconnect to the throne. The rapid succession of events that see the princess as the protagonist will lead to a real scandal, capable of undermining the established order and casting much more than a shadow on different characters.
With chaos beginning to take over, King Viserys (Paddy Considine) is completely overwhelmed by events and must brace himself to make very uncomfortable decisions in the name of his lineage. In doing this, however, it seems that even his soul and his body let show more than a few signs of letting up. Stubborn and resilient, the ruler will be the protagonist of several face to face that will mark the entire unfolding of the plot for the episodes to come. Leaving therefore more space to the frenzied density and suddenness of interludes, fiery exchanges and diatribes, the fourth episode of House of the Dragon shows how much Martin’s experience in the flagship series has been fundamental: for a long time, such a dense and intense episode has not been observed full of pathos, to the point of not allowing a moment to breathe.
House of the Dragon Episode 4: Ending Explained
A new jump in time has this fourth episode, in which we know that 4 years have already passed since the first chapter and with Rhaenyra as an adult, as well as Queen Alicent, who has already given birth to her second son, being a girl. The episode opens with the Princess rejecting suitors from other houses, and returning to King’s Landing without a husband despite the King’s efforts to introduce her to someone. At the same time, Daemon returns to the kingdom after winning the war at the Stone Steps, where he was even named king of the place.
But Daemon, to everyone’s surprise, humbly arrives to pay his respects to King Viserys, who accepts them and for at least an hour lives in peace with his brother. The king’s council tells Viserys that Sir Corlys Velaryon continues on his journey to ally himself with some house and even threatens to marry his daughter to the heir to Braavos, a free city that would be a great threat to the Kingdom.
But after this, perhaps the most controversial part of the chapter occurs, since after Rhaenyra escaped for a few hours to the city with her uncle, they both arrive at a brothel, kiss and have relationships despite being family. And it is not the first time that the Targaryens have incest as part of their family “tradition”. Although this does not come to an end with Daemon escaping and leaving his niece alone. The problem is that this reaches the ears of the Hand of the King, Otto Hightower, who tells Viserys about this news, but Viserys initially does not believe him and blames him for wanting to affect his family, all of this heard by Alicent.
What they didn’t know is that upon arriving at the castle, Rhaenyra hooked up with her Royal Guard, Sir Criston Cole. The next day Alicent confronted the princess about the rumors, but she manages to convince her that it was all a lie. On the same day, the king confronts Daemon, who even admits having been with her niece and wants to marry her, all a plan to get closer to the throne according to Viserys, who ends up throwing his brother out of King’s Landing again.
Viserys does not believe in his daughter’s innocence, and confronts her by telling her that it does not matter if it is true or not, she must marry Laenor Velaryon, son of Sir Corlys. To which Rhaenyra accepts, but she also tells her father that she must face Otto, who on several occasions has shown interest in having more power and pulling the strings of the family. The king listens to his daughter and confronts his Hand telling him that he no longer trusts him after his attempts to affect his family, and discovering that he brought Alicent closer just to have his blood on the throne. He eventually strips him of office.
At the end of the chapter, Viserys sends Rhaenyra some tea, which the doctor explains is to eliminate “anything unwanted in her body” after being with Daemon, implying that it is a method to not get pregnant after being with Daemon. Already with the advance of the next available episode, we see that Rhaenyra’s mouth will be carried out, of course that nothing will end well according to the following images.
