House of the Dragon: All Deaths In The Series, Most To Least Extreme! Complete List

In the world of House of the Dragon, there is one thing that we know for sure, and that is that not all the characters that appear at the beginning are going to arrive alive at the end of the seasons. The first season began with a moment of peace, but also with the death of a king and that always brings bad news, and many more deaths. When Viserys I also passed away and Alicent crowned his son, Aegon, as king, peace in the realm came to an end and we saw the beginnings of what promised to become one of the greatest battles in history.

Soon, the Targaryens declared war on each other (or rather it’s between the Targaryens and the Targaryens-Hightower) and we all knew that it could only end in blood, tragedy and shattered characters. Sure, some of the most shocking deaths didn’t happen in battle, like those of Laena Velaryon and Aemma Arryn, but this is the world of Game of Thrones and violent endings are always a strong possibility, which leads us to a list, in the style of Arya Stark, to remember all the fallen characters and the deaths that don’t cause us as much pain as the others.

House Of the Dragon and The Deaths That Marked The Series

Viserys I Targaryens

The fifth king of the Targaryen dynasty, and protector of prophecy, he was known as Viserys the Peaceful, because he managed to keep the kingdom in a state of peace, but that did not prevent him from a terrible end. The king began to show signs of illness even before he named his daughter, Rhaenyra, as his heir, but everything went from bad to worse and he began to rot, he lost fingers, an arm and an eye, and in the end, he was so drugged with Milk of the Poppy (which is similar to opium), who could barely stand. Viserys’s death was especially painful because he showed great loyalty to his daughter and her family, but not even his suffering could move us enough to stop fighting.

Luke Targaryens

Rhaenyra ‘s second son is sent to speak with Lord Borros Baratheon, but there he runs into Aemond Targaryen, who appeared earlier to give him a message from King Aegon II. Luke is sent as a messenger to ask for the loyalty of the Baratheons, but the house had already sworn allegiance to the Greens (who offered him a marriage proposal for his daughters), and that left Luke at the mercy of Aemond Targaryen, whom he continues to seek revenge for the fight in which he lost an eye. Luke dies trying to get back home aboard the Arrax, but Vhagar is bigger and stronger and starts to chase him down and eats him mid-flight, which is the act that turns Rhaenyra to war.

Aemma Arryn (and her baby)

This was one of the first kills in the series and it came in a brutal and bloody way, though not in battle. Aemma Arryn dies giving birth to her second baby, having lost many more in the attempt. The scene in question shows Viserys having to decide between the life of his wife and that of his baby, which leads him to decide to perform a rudimentary and very dangerous caesarean section, where he ends up losing the love of his life and the heir. that I had been waiting for so long.

Aemma Arryn (and her baby)

Laena Velaryon (and her baby)

Daemon Targaryen‘s second wife didn’t have a very long life either (although she wasn’t killed by her husband). Laena dies similarly to Aemma Arryn, during the duck. The difference is that Laena knows that she will not survive and is determined to have the death of a warrior and dragon rider, so she uses what remains of her strength to walk to her dragon, the largest and most powerful in the kingdom, and yell Dracarys, over and over again until Vhagar agrees to burn her alive.

Harwin Strong

The purported father of Rhaenyra Targaryen dies alongside his father, after being asked to step down from court as rumours of his relationship with the princess were taking hold. Harwin is burned to death when his brother, Larys, recruits several criminals, cuts out their tongues and orders them to go to their ancestral home, lock up his family and set the place on fire. Lyonel Strong listens as his son is burned alive, just before he too dies.

The “Traitors”

Once Alicent Targaryen places his son on the throne, Otto Hightower decides to ask the leaders of the most powerful families to bend their knees and swear allegiance to the new king. A few of them refuse to do so, as they are loyal to Rhaenyra, and this causes their death. One of them was even hung in the palace for all to see and take as an example, while another was killed by Criston Cole, who slammed him against the table in front of the rest of the councillors.

Vaemond Velaryon

This was a death that gave many satisfactions. Vaemond Velaryon took advantage of the fact that his brother, Corlys, was missing to try to claim his title and lands, which belonged to Luke Targaryen, the second son of Rhaenyra. To defend his right, Vaemond travels to King’s Landing and appears before the king, where he accuses the children of being bastards, making Daemon Targaryen draw his sword to behead him in front of everyone, as a warning of what can happen to them if they dare to say the same.
