Hawkeye: Why Didn’t Kate Face Yelena in Episode 4? Ending Explained Spoilers!
Who expected a face to face between Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova in the fourth episode of Hawkeye was disappointed: the two girls did not face each other, but why did Kate choose not to shoot her arrow?
To say that Hawkeye’s fourth episode finale was adrenaline-pumping would be an understatement. While Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) meets (and clashes) with Maya Lopez aka Echo, Clint Barton, our Hawkeye, gets to know Yelena Belova, Florence Pugh’s Black Widow.
The scene, which took place on top of a building in New York City, is not only action-packed, but also emotionally devastating. For a moment, we held our breath with Clint when the lead played by Jeremy Renner believed that Kate could face the same tragic fate as her friend Natasha Romanoff – a death for which not only Clint feels terribly guilty, but who continues to hunt him under the guise of the young and vengeful Yelena.
Hawkeye: Why Didn’t Kate Face Yelena in Episode 4?
Not that the girl is to blame for her desire to get justice for herself. We know all too well that the Black Widow was commissioned to kill Clint directly from Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). According to what the woman tells Yelena, in mourning for the death of her sister, the archer would be solely responsible for what happened to Natasha.
And so Yelena arrives in New York, about ten months after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and tries to carry out her mission. In the final, thrilling moment of Hawkeye’s fourth episode, Yelena manages to momentarily get the better of Clint when she comes face to face with Kate. However, something happens that we did not expect: the two young women do not fight each other. At a nod from Yelena, which seems to suggest she not to go against her, Kate chooses not to shoot the arrow she has already nocked, creating an interesting parallel with what Clint tells at the beginning of the episode: in charge of killing Natasha, Hawkeye he chose to spare her and the two later became great friends.
The interaction between Kate and Yelena, however brief, could lead to a similar conclusion. Clint and Nat’s heirs could form an alliance, become great friends, and why not, even more. Even if the matter has not been addressed for the moment, at least not within Hawkeye’s episode 4, it could be that Clint’s words have echoed in Kate’s mind and that the girl has thus decided not to shoot that arrow. perhaps after recognizing in the other’s gaze the pain of losing Natasha.
While we can’t, for the moment, rule out the hypothesis that Kate didn’t hit Yelena because she was intimidated by the Black Widow, the most logical explanation is that the show wanted to recreate Natasha and Clint’s first encounter with the new generation of heroines who they will replace them.
