Hawkeye: Who is Ronin? Origin & Powers Explained From the Disney Plus Series!
Hawkeye is available on Disney Plus. Getting your hands on the Ronin costume was Clint Barton’s primary mission in the first two episodes of Hawkeye. While his days as a black-clad swordsman were long over, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye went to great lengths to get the suit back. It has become evident that the costume holds some significance for Clint.
Lynx’s reputation as the best marksman on Earth is of course integral to the series, but it seems his two superhero alter egos are very much present in the history of the series. Hawkeye may have turned the page on his Ronin phase featured in Avengers: Endgame. But it seems that some of the enemies he made during this time did not do the same. Kate Bishop who stole her Ronin costume from a black market auction sparked a chain of events, one of them being Hawkeye’s battle against a group called the Tracksuit Mafia and their mysterious boss.
Who Is Ronin?
Avengers: Endgame introduced Clint Barton’s Ronin to the screen. After losing his family in the Blip, Clint assumes the identity of a masked vigilante who hunts down and shoots down criminals. While the movie doesn’t explicitly reference Clint as Ronin, he dons the character’s outfit in the movie. Hawkeye confirms that Clint was, in fact, Ronin for an unspecified period between the Snap and Endgame.
With his first two episodes, Hawkeye appears to be exploring Clint’s Ronin past by having him deal with the consequences of his actions. He feels guilty for the crimes he committed and wants to make sure Kate doesn’t get hurt by all the enemies he’s made. If that fits the story set up by Endgame, the comics reveal that Clint was actually the second person to take on Ronin’s identity. Indeed, Ronin was first adopted by Maya Lopez aka Echo.
It is not yet known whether Echo’s version in the MCU Ronin before Clint was also donned the costume and sword, or if she plans to take over that secret identity in the future. Either way, the comics confirm that Echo has a strong connection to Ronin, and it will be interesting to see if this is the first time that Clint and Echo have met or if the two have a common history that remains. to discover on the screen.
