The wait for the last 3 episodes of the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan was skyrocketing: from today, Thursday 15 December, the second part of the foray into the private life of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has been made available, finally responding to the request of the public’s “bomb news” about their departure from the places and ideology of the royal family and the bitter repercussions that followed: we analyze all this in our review of the last 3 episodes of Harry & Meghan.Harry & Meghan Volume 2 Review

Harry & Meghan Volume 2 Review: Episode 4: The Wedding and The Birth Of Archie

The fourth episode of the docuseries focuses on the marriage between Harry & Meghan and the birth of their firstborn, Archie. Already from Meghan’s preparation for the wedding, we understand what the future Duchess of Sussex will face: in fact, she cites a speech made to her by the Queen’s main private secretary, Samantha Cohen, in which she told her that their marriage was like a “foreign organism” which enters a school of fish swimming in perfect synchronicity in the right current, but that people would soon realize how the pair functioned better as part of this organism. From here on, the documentary suggests, Meghan would have become the lifeblood of the monarchy institution, with all the responsibility and effort that would have come with it.

The breaking point in this royal tale, Harry and Meghan are sure, was during their first Australian tour: this is when the tabloid press started to turn critical, and people were led to believe that what was being reported on the tabloids was the truth. No one could see the suffering all these lies were causing behind the scenes. A couple of the Dukes of Sussex was becoming too popular and was intentionally overshadowing the other members of the royal family, primarily William and Kate, by “stealing” the covers of the newspapers: an absolute betrayal for the Royal Family. Every movement or activity by Meghan seemed to always end up on the front page. The first disagreements between the brothers William and Harry also emerge; in particular, the mission accomplished with William.

Episode 5: the “Phenomenon” Meghan Markle

Beyond the controversy and controversies surrounding the production of this docuseries – which should be analyzed in depth – the fifth episode openly reflects on what we could call the Meghan Markle “phenomenon”, historically, socio-politically, and media-relevant. We can discuss how “perfect” the Royal Family considered themselves before Meghan’s arrival and how, without any doubt, the newcomer has tried to modernize their needs in her way, to make them assume a renewed cultural relevance, and has offered so many the critical tools to reposition this institution in the minds of a generation not so inclined to the idea that the monarchy has the right, divine or otherwise, to exist. You have brought the world of entertainment, diversity, and the social community closer to the concept of royalty.

The fury of the British tabloids and online hate began to engulf the family unit that Meghan and Harry were trying to build. From the outset, the British press highlighted her African-American heritage: some believed that this trait of the new duchess should be celebrated, and others who saw it as a cause for concern. Also, following Archie’s birth, Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland said there was a perception that Archie was “the institution’s baby” and not the son of Harry and Meghan, a belief that has begun to increase the couple’s desire to go away, together with the scandal of the letter to Meghan’s father disclosed by the Daily Mail. After fleeing to Canada for Christmas 2019, Meghan begins to believe that if she gets out of London, journalists will target her less. The couple recalls that even in Vancouver it was not possible to find a moment of peace and privacy: they perceived the drones above their home and also reported attempts to break into the property’s grounds.

Episode 6: A Modern Fairy Tale

The final episode begins with footage of Harry talking on the phone aboard what he describes as his “freedom flight” from Canada to the United States in early 2020. In the final junctures of the docuseries, we sense how Harry is ready to reveal his truth, placing himself once again on the same line of thought as his mother. He considers it untenable that the British media have seized upon every detail of Meghan’s story and amplified it: he speaks on several occasions of immoral behavior and abuse of power. Perhaps the most burning statement of the entire series comes in this episode: Harry is convinced that all this stress has caused his wife’s miscarriage and directly accuses The Mail. “Taking into account the stress, lack of sleep and the timing of the pregnancy, I can say that from what I have seen, the miscarriage was caused by what they were trying to do to her”, she says without any hesitation. A now adamant Harry on his position and the family he has built also reveals that his brother William terrifyingly screamed at him during the Sandringham summit to discuss his exit from the royal family, reflecting on the irreconcilability of William’s opinions and Father Carlo, from whom he has now ” stopped waiting for an apology“.

I miss the UK, I miss my friends and I have lost some in this process”, he confesses but acknowledges that he has changed for the better and that he is “overcome” the memory of his life in the UK, stating that he thinks Diana would have ended up living in the United States if she were still alive. Los Angeles is now home for Harry too, who confirms that virtually every link he had to his homeland has been severed. Actually, from Beyonce’s “messages“, at the meetings with Oprah and the beautiful villas where the interviews are recorded, it is clear that the couple lives a more glamorous lifestyle than they have been shown to have in the UK, but it is not for us to judge where the truth lies. Whether or not he managed to entertain, we are sure, Harry & Meghan will remain in trend on Netflix for a while longer: the docuseries has certainly managed to demonstrate that the royals are also good at streaming and that, if they are not British tabloids to build a narrative about them, are ready to do it directly themselves, taking much more than a front page of the newspapers, i.e. total visibility on the most recognized streaming platform.

Harry & Meghan Volume 2 Review: The Last Words

With great narrative cunning – perhaps “stolen” from the same British tabloids they are trying to escape – Harry & Meghan finish telling us their story, the only possible one, according to their version of events. From an entertainment point of view, the docuseries have hit the mark: it will undoubtedly remain in trend on Netflix.
