Good Grief will be available on Netflix from 5 January 2024. It is a film written, directed, and starring Dan Levy, present in the cast together with Luke Evans, Ruth Negga, and Himesh Patel. The protagonist is Marco, who finds himself facing the death of his husband Oliver, and his mother. He decides to take one of his best friends, Sophie and Thomas on a trip to Paris, where they find themselves facing secrets and heavy truths. The dramatic comedy that lasts 100 minutes tells the story of the artist Marc Dreyfus, who after losing his novelist husband Oliver (Luke Evans), embarks on a trip to Paris with his best friends, the gallery owner Thomas (Himesh Patel) and the designer Sophie (Ruth Negga), in which she discovers painful truths. Good Grief begins with Marc and Oliver hosting a Christmas party at their London home. The writer must leave early to fulfill a work commitment in Paris, but before arriving at the airport he suffers a fatal car accident. Despite the pain, the painter must continue with his life.

At his side are his two best friends Sophie and Thomas. A year passes since that tragic accident and Marc finally decides to read that letter. Well, Oliver’s last message contains a confession: he was seeing another person. At this point, the situation becomes complicated for Marc, as she must find the strength to forgive her late husband. Later, during an experimental art party, he meets Theo, a Frenchman who appears interested in him. Although there is interest on both sides, Marco doesn’t feel ready to go out with another person.

However, he attends an art gallery, where he meets a Frenchman named Theo, with whom he has a heart-to-heart talk and exchanges phone numbers. Meanwhile, the designer ends her relationship with Terrance and Thomas reunites with her ex. When the protagonist of Good Grief finally reads Oliver’s letter, he discovers that the novelist is seeing someone else.

Although they had an open relationship, he feels betrayed and after finding out that her husband was renting an apartment in Paris, he decides to travel with her friends, but he does not tell them the real reason. Upon arriving in Paris, Marc finds a gift that Oliver bought for Luca, so he returns it to give a dress to Sophie, who organizes a fun outing that doesn’t end well. While his friends hang out at karaoke with their dates, the artist meets up with Theo and has another heart-to-heart talk. After confessing that he agreed to an open marriage just to avoid losing Oliver, having dinner with Theo, visiting a gallery, and considering painting again, Marc returns to the apartment and has a heated argument with his friends. Thomas calls him out to disappear all night and not help him solve a problem with Sophie. Everything gets worse when Luca appears on the scene.

What Does the End of Good Grief Mean?

With Luca’s arrival, Marc has no choice but to tell his friends about Oliver’s adventure and the real reason for the trip, which upsets Thomas even more. Once things calm down, the painter asks her husband’s boyfriend to leave, but he has nowhere to spend the night, so they have to share the apartment. During dinner, Sophie confesses that it was Terrence who left her. Later, they ride the Ferris wheel and Thomas talks about his insecurities, and they both decide to go home to solve their problems. Meanwhile, Marc visits Theo and the next day tells Luca about the Christmas gift Oliver bought him. The dancer apologizes for interfering in his marriage.

Upon returning to London, Marc authorizes Imelda, who manages his finances, to sell his house. The wise woman gives them some advice that helps the artist make important changes in his life. Also following Theo’s advice, she returns to painting. Additionally, he meets up with Sophie again, who tells him that she is working hard to get Terrence back. After selling his house, he moves to a place where he can paint. Shortly afterward he exhibits his works in a gallery. Thomas goes to the exhibition with his new boyfriend and shows that he has also found his way. For his part, Marc found in painting a way to deal with his pain.

While fixing some financial matters regarding the completion of Oliver’s novel, Marc discovers more of his secrets. She learns that her husband had purchased a property in Paris, probably the one where she was going with the man mentioned in her letter. Marc falls even more into despair and then decides to go to that apartment in the French capital with Sophie and Thomas. However, Marc does not reveal what he discovered to the two friends but decides to say that the apartment belonged to him and Oliver.

In Paris, in the house, Marc discovers that Oliver has even bought a Christmas present for his lover, Luca. He then realizes that he often frequented the shop where he bought that gift, together with a boy. Sophie, who is dealing with her breakup, decides to accept a date with a boy she met on a dating app. She brings along Thomas and Oliver, who gets drunk and calls Theo. The latter is surprisingly located outside the karaoke room.
