Gomorrah 5 Ending: Here Is What Happens To Azzurra

Let’s start with this: at the end of the tenth episode, Azzurra is put safely on a boat with her son Pietro. Gennaro wants to ensure that she and the child can escape to safety while a clash rages on the beach between Ciro’s men and Nunzia’s men, ready to take revenge for the killing of their boss.

Let’s take a step back: Azzurra takes on the most unthinkable things in the fifth season. At first, a life without Gennaro, forced to live in a bunker after Patrizia’s testimony gave the magistrate Maresca the elements to proceed against him. Then there was the ambush aimed at her and Pietrino by the men of Nunzia, the widow of ‘O Galantommo who intends to kill Don Savastano’s wife and son so that the latter can experience what she experienced.

Finally, Azzurra had to go back to live alongside Gennaro, who in the meantime is again a free man having been dismantled with the case against him. Trapped in a golden cage with her son, Azzurra is increasingly impatient with Gennaro. Donna Luciana’s attempts at persuasion will not be enough to convince her to betray her husband. Although he is the cause of that painful life, Azzurra still does not seem ready to throw Genny to her enemies.

The desire for a better life for Peter grows in her. And it is when the child is taken away from her by the judge for the Juvenile Court that Azzurra feels she has lost everything. There are two things she wants from her husband: the return of her son, and the death of Ciro Di Marzio. The latter sets a trap for her, forcing her to drug Gennaro and hand him over. Azzurra is next to Nunzia when Ciro’s men kill the widow of ‘O Galantommo.

Once Ciro and Genny have recovered Pietro from the foster home where he was staying, Azzurra begs Ciro to at least spare the child’s life. The Immortal does not intend to kill Genny, Azzurra and Pietro, but the reconciliation is short-lived: the retaliation of the faithful to Nunzia erupts a few meters from them.

Gennaro makes Azzurra and the baby get on a boat, starts the engine and drives them away from that war zone. “You were right, you have to protect yourself from me ” Genny says to his wife: they will be the last words he will address to her, but neither of them is aware of it. Azzurra screams her name as the boat she is on disappears into the darkness of the night. Azzurra and Pietro survive the Gomorrah finale – the same cannot be said of Genny, who dies on the beach along with Ciro.
