After criticism over the name of the film Ghooskhor Pandat being released on Netflix, actor Manoj Bajpayee and filmmaker Neeraj Pandey on Friday clarified that the film’s story is based on a fictional character and has no connection with any caste or community. This statement of ‘Netflix’ faced criticism regarding its name, after which this statement was made. Due to this controversy, an FIR has been registered at Hazratganj police station in Uttar Pradesh, following a complaint. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

All promotional material will be removed. In a statement released on social media, Pandey acknowledged that the film’s title had hurt the sentiments of a section of the audience. He said that all promotional material related to the film would be removed for the time being. Pandey stated that the film is a fictional police drama, and the word ‘Pandit’ was used only as a colloquial name for a fictional character. He said, “The story of this film focuses on the actions and choices of an individual and does not target any caste, religion, or community. As a filmmaker, I approach my work responsibly to ensure that the stories are thoughtful and respectful.” Respecting people’s sentiments: Manoj Bajpayee, the film’s lead actor, said that he respects and takes people’s feelings and concerns seriously.
