The trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone follows the familiar arc: Harry in the closet under the stairs, Aunt Petunia’s haircut, the Hogwarts letter, Hagrid explaining to the boy who his parents were, platform 9¾, the Hogwarts Express, and the meeting with Ron and Hermione. There are plans of the castle, of the sorting hat, of Dumbledore, of Snape, of Ollivander, and of Draco Malfoy. The aesthetic commitment is to fidelity to the books rather than a visual reinvention, which the production team has pointed out on several occasions as a deliberate decision.
The series was filmed in Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, in the UK, the same studios where the original eight films were shot. Francesca Gardiner, screenwriter of Succession, is the showrunner. Mark Mylod, also of Succession and a veteran of Game of Thrones, directs several episodes. Executive producers include Rowling herself, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, who had already produced the films.

Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry Potter. Arabella Stanton, it’s Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout, it’s Ron Weasley. None of the three has previous major credits, which is consistent with the search for young actors without an already consolidated public image. His own Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry in all eight films between 2001 and 2011, stated that he hopes McLaughlin will surpass him: “I learned as I went. I look back kindlier now that I’m older, but I spent a long time learning how to act inside Potter.”
In the adult cast, John Lithgow takes on the role of Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer plays Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost is Hagrid. Katherine Parkinson appears as Molly Weasley. Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby were confirmed to play the Dursleys, Harry’s uncles, and in various other roles. Warwick Davis, who was already in the original films as Filius Flitwick, returns to the same character.
The choice that focused the most attention –and also the most violent reactions– was that of Paapa Essiedu, like Severus Snape. Essiedu is a black British actor; Snape is described in the books as a pale-skinned white man, and was played in the films by Alan Rickman until he died in 2016.
Sectors of the fandom reacted with hostility to the casting, and Essiedu publicly revealed that he had received death threats: “They told me, ‘Resign or I’ll kill you.'” If I open Instagram, I see someone saying they’re coming to my house to kill me. The actor also pointed out that he used this rejection as fuel for his performance and highlighted the contradiction of threatening to kill someone who stars in a story whose axis is tolerance and love over hate. Casey Bloys, head of HBO, confirmed that the production has a security team.
John Lithgow; she faced a different kind of pressure: part of the public asked her to leave the project in protest of Rowling’s involvement as executive producer in the wake of her trans-rights statements. Lithgow responded that the novels “clearly support the angels, opposing intolerance and discrimination,” echoing a similar argument made by Essiedu.

The theme park at Universal Studios is one of the most visited destinations for its facilities in Orlando and Hollywood. The animated series, video games, merchandise products, and travel experiences built an economic ecosystem that goes far beyond narrative.
What HBO is trying now is to transfer that fan base to television with a proposal that can sustain seven seasons without losing coherence or audience. The one-season-per-book model solves the rhythm problem: films had to compress or eliminate material. The series, with several episodes per installment, has room to develop secondary plots, minor characters, and details that the feature films discarded. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will be available on HBO and HBO Max from December 25, 2026, including recently launched markets such as Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

New Cast: Actors and Characters
Since it is a Harry Potter remake TV series, a new cast is needed to interpret the historical characters of the saga. Finally, at the end of May, the actors who will replace Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as Harry, Hermione, and Ron will be announced.
Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will take on the roles of the leading trio, joining the six previously confirmed actors who will portray some Hogwarts professors.
