Gears of War: Netflix to Produce Live-Action and Animated Series and Movie About The Game Franchise
Fans of the Gears of War game franchise woke up this Tuesday, November 8th, with great news. All this is because Netflix has announced that it is producing a movie and an animated series about the games for its platform. According to information from The Hollywood Reporter, numerous studios have entered into negotiations to produce content about the games, but the rights have been reserved for Netflix. Therefore, through its social networks, the streaming platform announced a live-action film and an animated series for the adult audience.
Created by Epic Games, the games follow Delta Squad, a group of soldiers who are given a mission to save the planet. Now owned by Xbox, Microsoft has revealed that the game franchise has over 22 million units and has earned over $1 billion (USD) in revenue as of January 2014. On the other hand, no other details about the productions were revealed by Netflix. It is known, however, that the streaming giant is currently looking for a name to take over the development of the projects. His name will be announced very soon. Finally, there is still no release date or any other details about the new Netflix projects. The platform’s international account, however, revealed that there is great “potential” for the emergence of new stories about the games.

What Could the Gears of War Movie and Tv Series Be About?
Despite the announcement, it’s still unclear what the adaptations might entail. The most obvious route for Netflix would be to loosely adapt the original story, both in the film and in the TV series. It’s hard to imagine an adaptation of the franchise that doesn’t explain the game’s broad backstory first, and it’s even harder to imagine an adaptation without the faithful Marcus Fenix (the main protagonist of Gears of War) taking centre stage. Regardless of how the series progresses, it is an incredible opportunity to bring one of the worlds of gaming to the screen with the most incredible stories.
That changed in 2016 when news broke about the development of Gears of War at Universal.
