FUBAR: Summary Recap

Luke Brunner and his daughter Emma have been lying to each other for years, neither of them knowing that the other is a CIA agent. Once they both find out the truth, they realize they don’t know anything about each other. When they discover that they have both been secretly working as CIA agents for years, Luke Brunner (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) realize that their entire family relationship has become a lie and that they don’t know each other at all. Like, father and daughter. Forced to work as a partner in the most unexpected way ever, for Luke a return to a business that only follows his retirement, an already risky undercover mission for the CIA turns into an uncomfortable family matter, with Emma increasingly intolerant to the fact that her father still treats her like a child.

Between them, sparks will break out and, perhaps, a newfound desire to get to know each other as if it were the first time. This is the incipit of FUBAR, a television series with eight episodes arriving on Netflix starting Thursday 25 May, and entirely conceived by Nick Santora (here also as executive producer and screenwriter of some episodes). A real event for the small screen, given that the Netflix show practically acts as the official debut for the Austrian actor in the vast universe of seriality as a recurring and absolute protagonist. A goal, that of Arnold Schwarzenegger, which the interpreter achieves at the “venerable” age of 76, without losing a gram of his proverbial charisma.

Luke’s Peace At Stake

In a common case, the death of a villain would bring peace and tranquility. The point is that FUBAR has shown that this is not possible. So much so that Luke manages to rescue his daughter from kidnapping. She was about to die trapped next to a reactor. Boro is also in Luke’s sights for help. However, this was Luke’s strategy to decimate the dealer. The basement explodes with Boro inside and, by all indications, he dies. Time passes and Tally prepares for her big wedding day with Donnie. Until then, everything in the Brunner family seemed to be in the most perfect normal until Luke decides to interrupt the wedding.

Luke wants his ex-wife back and explains why he missed the wedding. Luke claims to be a CIA agent, shows Tally a medal, and hands her a USB stick with records of an operation he was present at. Meanwhile, Luke had no idea that Boro had survived. The discovery comes when Tally and Donnie’s car explodes. However, the explosion happened at the wrong time. With Boro’s plans going down the drain, he goes on the offensive with his men and kidnaps Tally. To free Tally, Boro exists for Luke and Emma to take out on each other.

Tally’s Salvation

Then, Luke launches into a seemingly farewell speech to Tally and references the medal in her pocket. Tally realizes what Luke is trying to say and manages to stab Boro with the medal in the thigh. Once they recover, Luke receives a call from Tina. Luke and the others are picked up from the chapel where the wedding was to take place, including Tally. From this point forward, everyone discovers the truth about Luke and his life as a secret agent. However, they become allies and cannot go back. What will happen after this is left open, implying that the story will continue in new seasons.
