About her Her seemingly perfect existence about her, however, is upset when, suddenly, her husband tells her he wants a divorce. Finding Ola Review and Analysis
The title of the TV series, Finding Ola, suggests the idea of (re) finding oneself, which is the concept behind the show. After the traumatic divorce, our protagonist finds herself, in fact, in a completely new situation: she no longer has a man by her side to rely on and she has to find a way to make ends meet after years spent being a housewife. But after an initial moment of bewilderment, Ola will realize that divorce does not mean the end of her life, but only the beginning of a new one, perhaps even more stimulating. Thus she begins an introspective journey to discover herself (or rather, the rediscovery) and her value, which is not only expressed in the canonical garb of wife or mother but also, and above all, in her personal fulfillment. Ola’s determination and passion will be the main thrust to explore a new and unexpected role in which to identify that of the entrepreneur. It will certainly not be a journey without obstacles or difficulties, but thanks also to the support of friends and family, Ola will be able to reconnect with her true self.
The series directed by Hadi El Baghoury explores the role, or rather the roles, of the woman at 360 degrees. And it does so through the particularly credible interpretations of its protagonist, actress Hend Sabry, and the character of the mother / grandmother, played by Sawsan Badr. Two women of different generations who both find themselves having to deal with an unexpected situation that undermines their concept of ideal life, the one that sees their personal fulfillment only within marriage. Initially, in fact, they seem not to conceive that women can have another role outside the couple’s life.
Going through and fully experiencing all the phases of the breakup, however, in the end Ola (and her mother in tow) will understand that, in her life, black and white does not exist being a wife does not preclude being able to realize your dreams, having children does not mean having to give up your career. An awareness that is matured with the right timing (even in the series), helping to make everything even more truthful. If we really want to find a flaw in Finding Ola, it is that the surrounding characters (such as the children, the husband or the friend), are not explored as well as the protagonist and her mother.
Finding Ola Review: The Last Words
Finding Ola in this Netflix series of Egyptian production, the Tunisian actress Hend Sabry reprises, after 12 years, the role that made her famous in the Ayza Atgawez series, that of Ola Abdel Sabour. Here, after a traumatic and unexpected event, Ola will make a journey to (re) discover herself and the multiple meanings of being a woman. An aspect, the latter, that the series explores very well, also thanks to the convincing interpretation of its leading actress and her mother. We would have expected an equally good characterization also with regard to the surrounding characters.
