Feedback Series Review: Well-Constructed Netflix Polish Thriller with An Extremely Convincing Main Character

Based on the novel of the same name by Jakub Żulczyk, (Feedback in English and “Informacja Zwrotna” in its original language) is a Polish Netflix series that tells the story of Marcin Kania, a former rock star who due to Due to his alcoholism he lost his family. After the disappearance of his son, he undertakes a desperate journey through the darkest corners of Warsaw and the human psyche. The thriller is a genre capable of always satisfying a very large audience with varied tastes: products of this type are in fact among the most viewed on streaming platforms, which continually churn out new content, month after month. The latest addition to Netflix is Feedback, a Polish TV series – welcomed with great fanfare at home after a successful promotional campaign – which starts from a rather intriguing premise: a boy disappears and the last person to see him is his father, but the man remembers nothing of what happened that fateful evening. Between continuous flashbacks that take us back to the moment of the facts, providing us with one clue after another, we slowly bring to light a much more intricate and complex mystery than we could have ever imagined.
In our Feedback review, we will see how it is worth giving a chance to this Polish production, whose plot is well articulated and which the excellent interpretation of the protagonist, Arkadiusz Jakubik, makes it an appreciable product both for lovers of the genre and for occasional users. As soon as I finished watching, I had the feeling that Feedback is a good example of seriality, capable of exploiting archetypes to turn points of view over and over again while maintaining on stage a protagonist who is as effective as he is questionable in his human characteristics. Feedback, written by Kacper Wysocki and directed by Leszek Dawid, adapts the novel of the same name by Jakub Żulczyk, emphasizing the very thick noir layer of a highly dramatic story, yet masked by an irresistible pulp approach, as well as a thriller. After all, there is a thread that accompanies the viewing of the show, and it does not only concern the scenographic aspects: sequence after sequence, the story takes over, tearing apart the awareness of a protagonist crushed by his irremediable mistakes.
Feedback Series Review: The Story Plot
The plot of the TV series Feedback begins with Marcin who, after meeting his son for dinner, wakes up with blood-stained his shirt. He remembers what happened in a blurry way and has wounds on his face. He only has a few memories of their meeting. after which his son disappeared. Police initially thought Piotreck disappeared due to alcohol, drug, or gambling problems. His father, however, excludes this lead and remembers having seen men in black clothing and masks take Piotrek away by car. He now knows that he followed them to the station, but without being able to stop them. Marcin can’t remember their last conversation before his son’s disappearance. Just remember that the son was afraid of something. At this point, Marcin becomes convinced that he is not a good father to Piotrek.
Meanwhile, he continues with his investigations alone and discovers, through a friend of Piotrck’s, Lolus, that before he disappeared, he was working for a tenants’ association, managing the computer part. Together with her new friend Jadzia, whom she met at the therapeutic course, she decides to go to the house of a woman, Orszanska, who fought for tenants’ rights in Warsaw and Podkowa. Here, however, they find themselves faced with those masked men, who attack Jadzia, who is admitted to hospital. At the center of this story, as we anticipated, is the mystery of Piotr’s (Jan Hrynkiewicz) disappearance: his father Marcin Kania is the last to see him but, due to a series of circumstances, he only remembers some details of what happened. Marcin is a former rock star who has now retired from the scene, with alcoholism problems and a family that refuses to have anything to do with him: for this reason, he is particularly surprised when his son asks him for a meeting.
Piotr is an IT genius, a skilled hacker from an early age, and a prodigal employee of a digital start-up: something has happened, however, that worries him enormously, the boy admits to his father that he is scared, that he has gotten involved in some dangerous and that his life is at risk. The day after the meeting, of which Marcin remembers almost nothing due to a colossal hangover, the boy disappeared. He only remembers glimpses of what happened and is convinced that someone took him and made him disappear. Together with his ex-wife and daughter, with whom he has no longer had a relationship for some time, he will do everything to find Piotr, since the authorities do not seem to be of help, the only way to find out what happened to his son is taken matters into your own hands. What man will slowly bring to light is much more worrying and obscure than anyone could have ever imagined.
Feedback Series Review and Analysis
What works best in Feedback is Marcin’s physical and psychological characterization. The performance of Arkadiusz Jakubik (a real star in Poland, being an actor, screenwriter, and also a musician) manages to translate the topsy-turvy world of an exhausted, defeated man, crumpled by his addiction, who finds himself with his back against the wall when he loses what is dearest to him. The screenplay, therefore, blends his rocker past with a miserable future. Slowly as the series continues, Marcin’s important physicality dries up, blackening the contours of a series that reaches its reason for existing in the fourth – very notable – episode. Clear: in its anthological spirit (and today the best series are precisely the self-contained ones), the Polish Feedback has a certain structural freedom in its structure, guided by original material suitable for seriality (obviously, some passages are quite tired, also because the episodes are almost 60 minutes long).
Without giving away spoilers, Feedback illuminates the life of a man with broken days, just before it is incredibly destroyed. If the Polish Netflix series will appeal to thriller fans, on the other hand, there is the demonstration of how the losers – like Marcin – are the best opportunity to be shown in the cinema or a TV series. Feedback, in its intimacy, in its tangled mysteries (and interconnected, through a series of agreements and betrayals), and its marked drama, remains a discovery, to be grasped and discovered in the chaos of streaming. As we anticipated, the central element of this series is the character of Marcin Kania, played by a convincing Arkadiusz Jakubik. Marcin is a difficult, irascible man, always ready for a fight, devastated by addictions, full of regrets and resentment. The strength that he manages to find to search for his son, a crusade that at times he seems to be the only one to lead, is unexpected and, one episode after another, we are increasingly fascinated by this character full of defects but with great his heart.
The plot is well developed, and, in the five episodes of which the series is made up, it adequately highlights the revelations, increasingly involving the viewer who can’t wait to find out what happened to Piotr. Jan Hrynkiewicz’s character is also built slowly (especially through the use of well-placed flashbacks) and thoroughly, helping us to understand even better the nuances of a story that gradually becomes more articulated and complex. Feedback, a title that refers to a term used during the Alcoholics Anonymous sessions in which Marcin participates, is a good product for lovers of the thriller genre, a series that takes us to discover the darkest corners of a city like Warsaw, location perfect for a story with very tense atmospheres and for the redemption path of a man who abandons his hell to find – as well as his son – also his salvation.
Feedback Series Review: The Last Words
Feedback is a well-constructed thriller TV series with an extremely convincing main character: an excellent product for lovers of the genre, who will be dragged and involved in a journey of redemption in a hellish Warsaw. In the crazy and boundless streaming offer, an interesting series appears Feedback. The show, branded Polonia, works in its double role: behind the thriller, there is the drama of a man who has lost his way, obsessed with alcohol and himself. As said in our review, much of the strength comes from the writing, and a miserable character that makes everything more interesting.
