The Marvel First Family finally enters the Cinematic Universe of the House of Ideas. On November 8, 2024, it will be Reed Richards’ turn to captain the reboot of the Fantastic Four, until today the protagonists of three films plus one never officially distributed: films of little value, which have never managed to give the right value to the power expressed by the editorial counterpart. Now that Marvel has begun to think about the presence of Kang it could not fail to draw within its schedule also an iteration dedicated to the Fantastic Four, indissolubly linked to the next Marvel antagonist. But in what way?
Fantastic Four: No Origin Story
Kevin Feige has anticipated some aspects related to the film that will arrive, to make us understand that in Marvel there is the intention to raise the bar very high by bringing the Fantastic Four back to the big screen. An obvious aspect, given the previous results, but it is nice to hear an official statement from the manufacturer. However, what leads us to believe that there is the desire to immediately intertwine the events of Reed with those of Kang and the Avengers is the cancellation of an origin story. Feige confirmed it won’t be an origin story of the Fantastic Four; many people already know the story and many others know the basics: there will be no room to find out why Reed can stretch as if made of rubber, Sue can become invisible, Johnny catches fire and Ben is forced into the conditions of the Thing, with rocky features.
We will be immediately in media res. Something that has already seen Tom Holland as the protagonist with his Spider-Man: the version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe did not need an origin story, especially when it had already been told by both Sam Raimi with Tobey Maguire and by Marc Webb with Andrew Garfield. We could say that having already had Tim Story and Josh Trank behind the camera of the two films dedicated to the Fantastic Four committed to telling us the origins of what was happening, this time we can avoid it. Of course, with all due respect to those who, on the other hand, will come completely virgin to the experience of the Fantastic Family.
A Real Family And Real Antagonists
Moving on to the components, analyzed in more detail, it will be essential to highlight the value of the family. Reed and Sue are married, Johnny is Sue’s younger brother and Ben is like a brother to Reed, despite having no blood ties: this element within the Marvel context, where the Avengers themselves have managed to give life to an artificial family unit, we hope it can be put in the spotlight, to give even more value to the editorial product created by Stan Lee. Alongside this aspect, it is also right to expect a re-evaluation of the character of Sue, who thanks to her powers that do not stop at invisibility but also include the production of force fields, is a candidate for the perfect champion of the female power that Marvel has staged by Endgame to today: an aspect that, among other things, would give justice to a character who had a lot to say in the comics.
We do not know the Marvel reboot on what will focus on at this point, but the hope is that we can also get justice for Galactus and the Silver Surfer, his herald. The first we know to be the devourer of worlds, while the second is the son of the powers that Galactus himself gave him, making him able to manipulate matter at will and, thanks to the silver skin, practically invulnerable. Furthermore, with his surfboard, he can travel in the spaces, to precede the arrival of his master, who supplies himself with the energy of the world to obtain his strength of him. Already appeared in the 2007 film directed by Tim Story, Silver Surfer was much weaker and above all tied to his surfboard, which seems to give him power. Galactus himself was presented as a cosmic cloud when he is a real character, a humanoid. They both demand justice.
The one we trust can undergo the same treatment, with a restyling and a facelift worthy of his name is Victor Von Doom. The victim in the first 2005 film of cosmic rays that give him powers Doctor Doom has created an armor that allows him to be terrible and merciless, pursuing his goal of world domination to create a state of global well-being. His reasons for him touch those of Thanos, even if they are terrifying and merciless, aspects that were eliminated by the 2005 film, in which he was the main antagonist.
