The Eternals is available in theaters! If you want to know if Ikaris is dead, read on! For the first time since 2014, with the original James Gunn film Guardians of the Galaxy, Eternals marks the first time that Marvel has presented a whole series of superheroes at the same time. Directed by Oscar-winning Chloe Zhao, the film features 10 main characters from Eternals and Marvel Studios has assembled a set of stars to play them. Among them, Ikaris, played by Madden, has an intermittent relationship with his compatriot Sersi, played by Gemma Chan.

The love affair of these two is meant to be at the heart of the film’s plot. However, thousands of years after their split, team members must come together to deal with the looming emergence triggered by the Smart Hulk’s turnaround in Avengers: Endgame. At the end of The EternalsIkaris goes towards the sun but is he dead?

Did Ikaris Die At The End Of Eternals?

Eternals are powerful and remarkably resilient, but there is no doubt that Ikaris really died at the end of Eternals, as there is no way he will survive his plunge into the sun. Although The Eternals elevates Ikaris to the MCU’s Superman on several occasions, Ikaris’s abilities are vastly different from DC’s Man of Steel on the most basic level.

Superman derives his powers from the sun, by absorbing solar energy, and so he survived being the core of the star in the comics. In contrast, Ikaris abilities come from cosmic energy, which means his body cannot process the power of the sun bombarding him. Ikaris story truly came to an end at the end of Eternals, with Sprite’s tale turning into a prophecy. There is a tragic irony to this, given that Sprite has secretly loved Ikaris for millennia, and likely told the Icarus story as a love joke.

The interesting question, however, is whether Ikaris is going to stay dead or not. In the comics, the Eternals cheat death by being resurrected by the Great Machine. In Eternals, Heavenly Arishem reveals that the Eternals were created in a realm called the Forge of the World, which resembles the Great Machine.

Which means she could potentially create a new Ikaris. However, if she did, the new Ikaris wouldn’t have the memories of the old one, making her a very different character than the one who died in Eternals.
