Marvel Studios.

Eternals 2

With the important exception of Blade (which however is not shown in the face), these are characters little known to the general public of the Marvel comic universe, even if they are largely entrusted to very famous and loved superstars of the small and big screen. and the world of music. Surely we will soon hear about Eros, Pip, the Black Knight and of course Blade, but for those who are curious to find out more about these characters, their history in the comic world, their interpreters and their possible place in the new Marvel projects just read this in-depth analysis.

The New Marvel Characters Presented In Eternals

Dane Whitman / The Black Knight

His presence had already been announced for some time: already at the D23 Expo of 2019 it was announced that the actor Kit Harington would play Dane Whitman in Eternals. For much of the film Dane is presented as Sersi’s human English and charming boyfriend, obsessed with giraffes, curious about her true nature and powers, and fond of ancient relics. In one scene in particular Sersi gives him a ring of medieval origin, connected to his family’s coat of arms and on the screen it seems to glimpse a dragon engraved on the object.

Dane Whitman The Black Knight

Just before Sersi disappears, recalled by Arishem, Dane is about to reveal important news about her family and her secrets. In the last scene of the film we see him in his house, a mansion that looks very old, opening a chest containing the Ebon Sword, being stopped by Blade just as he is about to touch it.

In the world of Marvel comics the character of the Black Knight appeared in the late 1960s in the Avengers runs. His title is hereditary and is passed among the male heirs of the Whitman family, starting with Sir Percy of Scandia, the first Black Knight. Dane is the fifth to bear the title, at least in the world of comics. The Black Knight is a human without particular superpowers, if not the ability of a swordsman: the element that characterizes him is the inseparable bond with the Ebon Sword, the long black blade that we see at the end of Eternals. The Black Knight can call it at will and take advantage of its ability to cut any material.

In the comics Dane soon joins the Avengers and in particular is often the sidekick of Doctor Strange and Captain America, thanks to which he has honed his skills as a fighter. His important role played in the clashes with Kang the Conqueror and the Kree make possible his future appearances in the next films that will see these characters, although it appears clear that Dane has a connection with Blade. To play him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Kit Harington a British actor known worldwide for the role of Jon Snow in the television series Game of Thrones.

Eros

The appearance of Thanos brother was instead an absolute surprise, especially considering who plays the character. Eros and Pip the Troll somehow manage to teleport to the spaceship of the Eternals, encountering Thena, Druig and Makkaris as they travel through space in search of others to reveal the truth about Arishem and the Celestials.

Eros

Eros immediately introduces himself as Thanos brother. He is wrapped in a red armor that recalls that of the Eternals, because in fact he too is such: it was the Eternal A’Lars who generated him during his life on Titan satellite planet of Saturn where Eros grew up. Unlike his brother, Eros is cheerful, affable and very gallant in character, so much so that he has earned a certain reputation as a seducer. Appearing for the first time in the 70s in the Marvel runs, Eros has played the role of Avenger in many story arcs, remaining a sort of reserve compared to the official team. During one of these missions, the Wasp nicknamed him Starfox, which later became his “official name” in the Marvel universe.

Being half Eternal, Eros has superhuman strength and the ability to age much more slowly than earthlings. It is also able to fly and can survive in space for a few hours without oxygen, thanks to a barrier that surrounds its body. Its main power, however, the one suggested by its name, is to stimulate the emotions of others through the pleasure centers of the brain: in fact it is able to make someone fall in love even against their will. A power that led him to be put on trial on Titan.

Adventurer and explorer of the galaxy, he has often helped the Avengers in their missions. During the implementation of Thanos’ plan in the comics, the mad titan’s little “family reunion” featured not only Nebula, but also that of stepbrother Eros. In the MCU Eros is played by Harry Styles a former member of the One Direction band who has now become a solo singer and actor: among his most popular roles, that in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk.

Pip The Troll

He appears alongside Eros in the first extra scene of Eternals, as a travel companion of Thanos’ brother. He seems intoxicated by some kind of space alcoholic drink, so much so that he staggers and mumbles a bit beside his fellow Eros.

Pip The Troll

Created in the 1970s by Jim Starlin, Pip has the appearance of a troll: he is short, has large hairy feet and long ears. As an alien to the planet Laxidazia, he initially looked very similar to Earth’s, but a mutagenic ale transformed him as he appears in Eternals. Due to his lewd nature and his indecent behavior he was hunted by the other inhabitants of Laxidazia and became a wandering adventurer.

It was probably he who teleported Eros and himself to the ship of the Eternals: in fact for a long time he was the keeper of a Space Gem, which would have guaranteed him unlimited powers. However, he has always used it to teleport and travel to places he already knows and over time he has acquired the ability to do so despite having lost the gem.

Pip is a comedic sidekick, often intoxicated by the fumes of alcohol and prone to thefts and throws of this kind. In the world of Marvel comics Pip is the shoulder of Adam Warlock, a character already mentioned in the past in the MCU and whose presence has already been confirmed in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3. Adam will be played by Will Poulter, while Pip is played by Patton Oswalt. A curiosity: when the news was made public that Peter Dinklage would have held a role in the MCU, many speculated that it would have been Pip’s.

Blade

Oscar- winning actor Mahershala Ali in the role of Blade is the voice of the unknown off-screen who stops Dane from touching the Ebon Sword.

Blade

He is the brother of Thanos, half Eternal, who teleports to the Dome of the Eternals with Pip the Troll to warn Thena and the others of the impending danger. He is portrayed by Harry Styles.

He is the travel companion of Eros, who teleports the two to the Dome of the Eternals. He is portrayed by Patton Oswalt.

It is the human identity of the Black Knight, Marvel supere in possession of the Ebon Sword. In the MCU he is played by Kit Harington.

Eros, Thanos’ brother.

Harry Styles, British actor and singer.

Actor and comedian Patton Oswalt

British actor Kit Haringon, best known for his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones.

Dane Whitman, human identity of the Black Knight superhero.
