Enola Holmes 2, a Netflix movie based on the “The Adventures of Enola Holmes” book series written by Nancy Springer, Millie Bobby Brown’s character opens a detective agency and prepares to follow in her brother Sherlock’s footsteps. However, no one takes her seriously for being a woman. Just as she is about to give up, Enola receives a call for help from little Bessie, who wants to find her sister Sarah Chapman. To find some clues, the detective infiltrates a match factory and follows a friend of the missing woman to The Paragon music hall.
Amid his investigation, he meets Sherlock Holmes, who is working on a case that keeps him up at night. Although she refuses to accept her brother’s help, she turns to him when she is chased by police officers for being at Sarah’s friend’s crime scene and refusing to turn over the evidence she found.

Another clue leads the protagonist of Enola Holmes 2 to a fancy ball where she tries to get closer to William Lyon. Lacking a chaperone, she is forbidden to speak to him, so she gets him to give her the last dance. But first, she meets Lord Tewksbury and asks him to teach her how to dance. During the dance with William, Enola confronts him about Sarah’s disappearance, and Lyon promises to meet him somewhere else to give him more information. Tewksbury also arrives at her rendezvous, trying to help her unsuccessfully when the police show up to arrest her for murder.
After realizing that the clues in his case are related to music and that it is a message from Moriarty, Sherlock receives news of his sister’s arrest. He tries to free her, but Superintendent Grail has several pieces of evidence against her and stops him. With no other options, Henry Cavill’s character turns to a friend of his mother. Finally, Eudoria Holmes (Helena Bonham Carter) comes to her daughter’s rescue and in addition to saving her from being hanged, she gives him a new perspective on Sarah’s case.
A visit to Bessie allows Enola to discover that it’s not typhus that kills the women in the factory, but the phosphorus used after the deal between McIntyre and William’s father. Also, she realizes that Cecely is Sarah and that she is an ally of Lyon’s son. Clues to their case lead Sherlock to the same location as Enola and together they discover the body of William Lyon. After analyzing the crime scene, they deduce that the sheet music they found is a map that leads them to The Paragon, where they find Sarah and the evidence against the phosphorus factory owners.

Before the protagonists of “Enola Holmes 2″ they can leave with the evidence, Grail appears and threatens to kill little Bessie if they don’t give him the documents. The Holmes brothers offer resistance and after an entertaining fight Enola manages to get rid of the Superintendent. Just then McIntyre appears and asks Inspector Lestrade to arrest Sarah for extortion, but before that can happen, Sherlock intervenes and reveals the real culprit: Moriarty. But what is his true identity?
Mira Troy is exposed and does not bother to deny it, even showing off his intelligence. After Moriarty’s arrest, McIntyre burns the evidence against him, however, he does not go unpunished as Sarah motivates the women of the factory to go on strike and Tewksbury gets McIntyre arrested. Enola Holmes 2 ends with Sherlock proposing to his sister to join their detective agencies, although the intrepid young woman rejects him, she proposes to see him more often. Also, Mira Troy is revealed to have escaped from prison.

Throughout the film, Enola realizes that she cannot act on her own in the future. She needs trustworthy people that she can surround herself. And the same goes for her brother, a much more human and emotional Sherlock than in previous adaptations of Arthur Conan Doyle’s character. The investigator played by Cavill requires friends around her, even if he doesn’t recognize them. So, Enola sets out to find someone to share a flat with at 221B Baker Street. The young woman is staying with her older brother on a Thursday at 4 in the afternoon. But when Sherlock shows up, what he finds is not his beloved familiar, but a man unknown to him. A doctor who calls himself John Watson.
Dr. Watson is the legendary sidekick of Sherlock Holmes in the Conan Doyle novels. Together they live endless adventures and solve countless cases, with Watson taking note of everything and acting as the narrator in the books themselves. For this reason, his presence in the franchise is of the utmost importance for the character of Cavill. The actor chosen to play him is the British Himesh Patel (EastEnders, Yesterday). But, in addition, Watson also plays a very important role in the Enola Holmes books, written by Nancy Springer. In one of them, he is even the centre of the case that Enola must solve. Therefore, his introduction in Enola Holmes 2 may suggest that a third instalment is on the way.
If a continuation of the Netflix franchise is confirmed, the character could be something different from what has been seen on other occasions.
