Encanto Ending Explained: How House Begins To Collapse?
As a crack cracks the ground between the granddaughter and the grandmother, Mirabel launches into action. The house begins to collapse, the other family members save each other from the falling debris and flee from the house as Mirabel reaches the candle. Mirabel looks at the candle in horror but cannot dwell on what happened as the upper floors of the house begin to crumble. But when the dust clears and the house is nothing more than a heap of rubble, Mirabel is nowhere to be found.
The family, especially Mirabel’s father and mother, don’t know where she has been and spread out into the nearby mountains and forest in the hope of finding her. Finally, it is Abuela Alma who discovers Mirabel sitting by a river that she has not approached since arriving in their current home, half a century ago.
Abuela reveals that the river that Mirabel sits on is where her husband and grandfather died trying to defend her and their children from the people who forced them to leave their home in origin. Abuela’s candlelight prayer grew out of her anguish over this loss and led her to their magically fueled home in a hidden region of Colombia. However, after their home collapsed, Abuela realized that she had held onto the family miracle too much. This is why she has not been able to appreciate all that Mirabel has to offer and that she sees her children and other grandchildren through the prism of their gifts. But Abuela finally sees clearly, and Mirabel and she reconcile.
While they are reconciling, Bruno arrives on horseback. He fears that Abuela is still angry with Mirabel and tries to blame her for what happened at the house. But Abuela no longer cares about assigning responsibilities and simply hugs her long lost son. As the family sings and Bruno apologizes and makes amends to his siblings, all the residents of the neighboring town approach. The people who had always relied on the Madrigals for guidance came to offer their help in rebuilding the family home.
The family and neighbors work as a team and as they build the house together. And once the house is rebuilt, they can see each other clearly, including Mirabel, who they now realize is courageous and lucid in a way they hadn’t recognized before.
