Does The Dahmer Fan Club Really Exist? Anyone who has seen the TV series Monster: The Story Of Jeffrey Dahmer, the most talked about Netflix series of the moment, has in mind the events that took place around what is considered one of the most famous serial killers in America. The Netflix series, however, does not delve into a curious and disturbing aspect of Jeff’s life, namely his personal fan club, called Dahmer Fan Club. This topic is well covered in another product dedicated to the serial killer, namely the 2017 film My Friend Dahmer (never released in Italy), a title that focuses on the adolescent phase and Dahmer’s first disturbing behaviors. The film was born as a re-adaptation of the 2012 comic of the same name written by Derf Backderf, where he illustrated with his drawings what it meant to have someone like Dahmer as a classmate. The Birth of The Dahmer Fan Club
Towards the third year of school at Revere High School in Ohio, Dahmer begins to attract the attention of his classmates by imitating the speech of Mr. Burlman, the interior designer of his house who suffers from a form of cerebral palsy. Unhappy, Dahmer also feels pleasure when his classmates look at him while he fakes epileptic seizures in the middle of the school corridor. These desperate signs of his help are noticed by the group of boys (including Backderf himself), who decide to invite Dahmer into their gang; the group nicknames itself the Dahmer Fan Club and members keep Dahmer company until the end of school in 1978.
The Photobombing Fan Club
The film My Friend Dahmer also explains the reason for Dahmer’s photobombing gesture, which is when he fits into the 1978 group photo intended only for the most deserving pupils of the year. It all stems from a joke proposed by Dahmer, who convinces his fan club members to sneak into as many group photos as possible to “belong to as many fan clubs as possible”. When friends happily welcome the idea of the joke, the direction focuses on a close-up of Dahmer smiling wistfully; probably, the director wanted to make it clear how the idea of belonging to other groups in some way positively influenced the boy’s mind, however, held back by the awareness of never being accepted by most of them, due to his strangeness.
A Hint Of The Dahmer Fan Club In The Netflix Tv Series
In the Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: the story of Jeffrey Dahmer in reality, a scene has already been introduced that recalled the origin of the Dahmer Fan Club. In episode 3, entitled Making a Dahmer, at the minute 10:22, a group of guys stops Dahmer in the middle of the hall to make him do a weird imitation of “the one out of his mind” (who in the film is presented as Mr. Burlman). The boys, however, dismiss Dahmer as soon as the boy’s behavior becomes more disturbing than it should.
In addition to the testimony of Backderf’s cartoon drawings, there are no sources that ascertain the existence of the Dahmer fan club; this, perhaps, is because its members did not want to dust off certain memories that nowadays have a completely different value.
