Doctor Strange 2? Who Will Be The Villain Of The Theories After The Release Of The New Trailer

Who will be the villain in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? It is a question that we have been asking for some time and to which we have tried to answer several times. After the realization of the trailer for the film – broadcast during this year’s Super Bowl – and aware of the events narrated in WandaVision and Spider-Man: No Way Home, we can narrow down the field of hypotheses.

The new trailer raises a ton of new questions without offering the much-coveted answers. In addition to the presence of Patrick Stewart aka Professor X and the possibility of the Illuminati making their MCU debut, the clip confirms the appearance of multiple variations of protagonist Stephen Strange, played once again by Benedict Cumberbatch, and Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. With a myriad of characters on the way (including Captain Carter and the zombies already seen in What if…?), Finding out who the film’s Big Bad will be seems like an almost impossible feat. Yet, there are only three most accredited hypotheses. Here are which ones.

Doctor Strange: Hero And Villain Of His Own Film?

The trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness leads us to think that Strange himself could be both the hero and the villain of the film. Whether Strange is responsible for what is happening is beyond question. Wong himself warns him of how dangerous the situation is: “You can’t control everything, Strange. You opened the door between two universes, we don’t know who or what can cross it”.

We see Strange being arrested by Mordo and brought before the Illuminati. But we can’t be sure that he is the villain in the film, the threat to be stopped to save the Earth. However, he could be one of the variants of the character that will cross the boundaries of the Multiverse. That he is the evil sorcerer protagonist of the fourth episode of What if…? Doctor Strange lost his heart instead of his hands?”?

Will Doctor Strange Have to Stop Scarlet Witch?

The trailer for the film also supports another theory, that it will be Wanda/Scarlet Witch who will give the hero of the story a hard time. After the events of WandaVision – in which the protagonist, blinded by grief, held an entire town hostage, the idea that Wanda Maximoff will go to the dark side has made its way into the minds of the Marvel Cinematic Universe fan.

Although in the finale of WandaVision the protagonist managed to overcome the trauma of the death of the beloved Vision by freeing Westview and its inhabitants from its mind control, we must not forget that Scarlet Witch is now in possession of the Darkhold. Thanks to her ancient grimoire, Wanda hopes to be able to find her lost children, but is it only for this purpose that she will use them? If Earth-199999’s Wanda doesn’t turn out to be Doctor Strange’s villain in the Multiverse of Madness, one of its variants could be.

Or Wanda may just turn out to be a misunderstood person. In the trailer for the film, Scarlet Witch herself states that, whatever her true intentions are, she will always be labeled as a threat: “You break the rules and you become a hero. I do it and I am the enemy. It does not seem right”.

What If The Enemy Was Nightmare?

Finally, there is a possibility that the opponent to be faced is someone who has not yet made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, namely Nightmare. His long-rumored presence in the film could be confirmed by the first words we hear in the trailer: “Every night I have the same dream, then the nightmare begins”.

The phrase may have been included in the trailer to sidetrack us or to confirm that Strange has been trapped in the Dimension of Nightmare Dreams. If Wanda’s children were in the same place, Nightmare could not be revealed as a villain in Doctor Strange 2, but also act as a link between WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
