Doctor Strange’s Nightmare

The trailer begins with Stephen Strange speaking by referring to a recurring nightmare in which he sees the Sanctum Sanctorum in ruins and the ground is full of skeletons in its vicinity. According to many rumors, Doctor Strange 2 is expected to be the first horror-style MCU movie. This scenario may be a vision of the Nightmare Dimension and not just a dream of Strange.

The Fall of Kamar-Taj

Throughout the trailer, we see multiple images of the magical kingdom of Kamar-Taj struggling with an attack by a dark force. From what we see, the battle seems to be taking a bad turn with the defeated sorcerers.

The Powers of America Chavez

The first shot of the new Marvel heroine, America Chavez, reveals her powers. In fact, here is a star-shaped portal that tears the fabric of the multiverse. The girl appears to be “chained” by Strange’s spells, but looking closely at her, one realizes that she is some demon of the multiverse attacking America Chavez.

America Chavez Faces Off Against A Monster From The Multiverse

This would appear to be the monster of the multiverse that “chains” America Chavez. We do not know how the film will introduce her character and if her origins will be changed, what is certain is that the girl already possesses her super-strength, that she is already able to fly and open portals.

Here is Defender Strange – Strange the Defender

Another “version” of Strange also appears in the trailer. For a few moments, in fact, “Defender Strange” also appears. This version is recognizable thanks to a new costume and two evident white stripes on the hair. The wounds on the character’s forehead suggest a not-so-lucky encounter with some multiverse threat.

The Ramifications Created in Spider-Man: No Way Home

The trailer also explains that, despite Doctor Strange’s desperate attempt, the fabric of reality suffered irreparable damage following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Wong is injured

It might not matter, but the first shot that shows us the new Sorcerer Supreme Wong shows the character with several wounds on his face. It could be the aftermath of the attack on Kamar-Taj or it could simply be an indication of how dangerous the world has become since Strange “opened” the multiverse.

The MCU Multiverse is Finally Open (For Real)

Director Sam Raimi uses the multiverse to destroy Doctor Strange’s New York. While this may be part of his vision of the Nightmare Dimension, the destruction of his home would be the perfect catalyst for convincing Doctor Strange to go on his journey into the multiverse.

Dr. Christine Palmer’s Wedding

The trailer also briefly shows the wedding of Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) friend, colleague and love interest of Stephen Strange. The scene probably takes place at the beginning of the film, before the monstrous entities of the multiverse invade the reality we know.

Rintrah Prepares For The Battle Of Kamar-Taj

Rintrah, a Minotaur-like creature, is shown among the other Masters of the Mystical Arts as a menacing black cloud falls upon Kamar-Taj. Rintrah is a secondary character in the comics and was also Strange’s apprentice for a short time. Like America Chavez, Rintrah hails from another reality in the comics.

Strange Will Have To Pay For His Multiverse Crimes

Many may consider the trial of Strange excessive, but having helped Peter Parker with the fateful spell, has more serious consequences than anticipated. The sorcerer is tied up with high-tech handcuffs, suggesting that there is another police force in charge of preserving timelines, apparently with even greater power than the TVA seen in Loki. Their identity? We will find out later.

The Trial of Strange For Defiling Reality

Doctor Strange is led through what appears to be a facility belonging to whoever arrested him. The voiceover we hear is that of Mordo, who says: “Your profanation of reality… will not go unpunished!”.

The Return Of The Iron Legion

Mordo appears to have captured Doctor Strange, holding him back with a team of what appear to be Tony Stark’s Iron Legion drones, albeit with a more Ultron-like appearance. Whether they were reprogrammed after the Battle of Sokovia remains to be seen, but it seems more likely that these drones are in the service of the organization protecting the timelines. It is therefore very likely that these drones were taken from the timeline in which Ultron was unable to take control. These are just guesses, but this could even suggest Iron Man’s return to the MCU.

The Debut Of The Illuminati

After so many rumors that have landed on the net in recent weeks, here is the confirmation of the debut in the MCU of the Illuminati, a powerful group of superheroes commissioned by their founder, Tony Stark, to protect the universe. In this version it appears that the group’s mandate has been “extended” to protect the multiverse. Illuminati members are not revealed, although it seems logical to assume that Mordo is one of them.

Patrick Stewart Returns as Professor X

In the most shocking and thrilling moment of the trailer, Sir Patrick Stewart returns as Professor Charles Xavier, also known as Professor X. While Stewart’s voice in the Doctor Strange 2 trailer is unmistakable, the footage does not offer a clear look at Professor X, perhaps saving it for another trailer or theatrical release of the film.

Do Doctor Strange & America Chavez Travel Through Time? Or Is It The Wild Land?

Stephen Strange and America Chavez are also shown floating through a dinosaur-filled plane of reality, suggesting that the heroes will travel through time and the multiverse. Or it is the Savage Land, a hidden area located under Antarctica, this area has numerous curiosities and uniqueness, such as dinosaurs and prehistoric animals or the presence of vibranium.

Supreme Strange Threatens Doctor Strange

As shown in the first Doctor Strange 2 teaser at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, an evil variant of Stephen Strange will appear in the film. It is unknown if this evil version will be Strange Supreme, the same variant seen in What If…? or a new variant. Supreme Strange redeemed himself in the What If…? Season finale, making this Strange variant a potential ally. Either way, Doctor Strange battling an evil variant of himself will create an exciting and surreal sequence.

A Mysterious Figure

Shortly thereafter, we see a “flaming” human figure flying through the fabric of reality. There are those who speculate it is the Human Torch, but it is very likely that it is Monica Rambeau in her look from Captain Marvel.

Scarlet Witch Vs Captain Marvel?

Whether or not the flamboyant figure – who clearly has a jaw-dropping level of power – is indeed a new Captain Marvel or some other character, we see her attacking Wanda Maximoff.

Gargantos

Also shown in the trailer is Gargantos, a giant, sprawling monster. Gargantos is shown battling America Chavez and Doctor Strange at various points in the trailer. While Gargantos is likely a monster from another dimension in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in the comics the creature is an enemy of Namor the Sub-Mariner. The inclusion of Gargantos in Doctor Strange 2 further fuels speculation that Namor will debut in Phase 4 of the MCU.

A Memorial For Doctor Strange?

Towards the end of the trailer, Doctor Strange looks at a statue of himself as the voice of Wanda Maximoff scoffs that Strange is seen as a hero even when he breaks the rules. If Strange travels through time as well as the multiverse, he may be looking at New York City long after his disappearance. If the statue is any indication, Strange will be seen as a hero after his death, despite his reckless and potentially catastrophic actions.

Wanda Returns to Westviews

In a surprise moment, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) returns to her and Vision’s home in Westview. Wanda, now Scarlet, continues her confrontation with Doctor Strange by claiming that she was considered a villain when she broke the rules. Although Maximoff was understandably hurt by the pain of losing Vision, she controlled the minds of an entire city, causing unimaginable pain and loss of will, so it’s not unreasonable for her victims to insult her. Despite this, Strange’s actions have potentially doomed the multiverse, but no one frames him as a villain. Maximoff’s words imply that her role in Doctor Strange 2 may not quite be Stephen Strange’s ally.

Mordo Fights Strange

Towards the end of the trailer, we see Karl Mordo attacking Strange who is handcuffed. Considering the friendship Strange and Mordo had in the first film, however, there is a chance the two will become allies once again to defend Earth from a threat greater than either one could handle alone.

Scarlet Witch is injured

Despite the great powers of Scarlet Witch, it seems that someone will still manage to hit and hurt her. Although for a few moments, in fact, we see Wanda with a serious head injury and her face is almost completely covered in blood. What threat could this have done? The answer could be contained in the end of the trailer.

Zombie Strange… Or is it a Nightmare?

One of the final shots of the trailer shows a disturbing image of what appears to be yet another variant of Doctor Strange. This Stephen Strange seems to have merged with dark creatures from another universe, turning him into a zombie. While likely a variant, this zombie Doctor Strange could be the version caused by some torture or corruption.
