Deva Movie Review: Grapples with Duality Like Right-Wrong, Moral-Immoral
Shahid Kapoor‘s new ‘Deva Movie’ is engaged in theaters. Since the teaser, there was a lot of hall around this film. In many places, this light was claimed to be a remake of Rosshan Andrrews’s Malayalam film ‘Mumbai Police’. Makers took a break from these questions and comparisons. It is reported that three different climaxes of ‘Deva’ have been shot. However, upon watching the film, it seems that ‘Deva’ is a remake of ‘Mumbai Police’. Magar ‘Deva’ has been molded according to North Indian sensibilities. Changing Climax does not separate the entire film. The good thing is that ‘Deva’ is not a Mindless remake. Makers have worked on Screenplay. Which does not make it very different from the original. ‘Deva’ becomes a better film than a Magar stand-alone film. Deva Movie Review: The Story Plot
The story of Deva (Shahid Kapoor), a serpent policeman, begins with a flashback, where he is returning by solving a very large case. That’s when he gets into an accident and his memory goes away. The information about Deva’s memory is only to his doctor and senior Farhan (Entrance Rana). Before the accident, Deva told Farhan that he had committed the case. The overbearing policeman kills Deva Mujarim so ruthlessly without following any protocol that journalist Dia (Pooja Hegde) also writes about him whether he is a policeman or a mafia. Deva is looking for a Mumbai gangster (Manish Wadhwa), the more often Deva tries to capture him, the more times he manages to escape from the gangster police catch. The police department suspects that there is an inside piercing, which has been met by miscreants. There is also a second track in the story, where Deva’s brother-in-law Rohan (Pavel Gulati) is shot and killed the same day he is to be awarded the gallantry award. Deva gets involved in the murder of his friend and policeman, but by the time he solves the case, his memory is gone. After going to memory, Deva is again assigned a Rohan case. As Deva goes to the bottom of the case again, his hand’s clues, and at the end when he discovers the culprit, he is shocked as well as the audience.
Deva Movie Review and Analysis
The story of police and gangsters is not new in Hindi films. Countless times this story of thief-police has been redeemed in Bollywood. This story of director Rosshan Andrrews‘ film is a remake of the ‘Mumbai Police’ from today to date, 12 years ago, then the story lacks newness. In 2025 you could not connect to this story. The film’s screenplay is weak. The first half is long and, if seen, the real story begins after Interval. When you arrive at Climax, you are shocked, but you cannot find answers to many questions. You do not find the reasoning of many of the hero’s adventures in the film. After the film is over, you get into thinking about how the hero of the Hindi film should be. Even if he is an anti-hero, his reasoning should be correct. However, the technical team deserves praise. Amit Roy’s cinematography is tremendous. The selection and camera angle of their color palette are interesting. The action scenes of Anal Arasu, Supreme Sundar, Vikram Dahiya, Parvez Sheikh, and Abbas Ali Mogul are strong. Editing A Srikar Prasad as Editor is excellent. The background music of the film is fantastic, but the music does not have power.
Shahid Kapoor is a convex actor. Here too, Deva’s character entertains her aerogenes, anger, style, swag, and action. He has been effective in two forms of recall and loss, coming to Magar Climax, all his hard work is lost when his character does not seem to be justified. The romantic track of Shahid and Pooja Hegde also does not add anything special to the film. However, Pooja has done justice to her role. Amitabh Bachchan appeared in the first poster of ‘Deva’, then some of the films were also seen in his water, but there is nothing like this. There is just one ‘wall’ and Amitabh Bachchan. Because of this, if you understand that Rosshan Andrrews‘s 2025 Angry Young Man is like the Angry Young Man of the eighth decade of the last century, then your choices are in crisis. The film ‘Deva’ has a lot of supporting actors. Was also in the original. There was no heroine near Prithviraj. This film is a tremendous entertainer, Shahid Kapoor looks like you will forget Kabir Singh. The story binds you from the beginning and then one amazing scene after another and Shahid’s tremendous performance, you don’t get off the screen for 1 second. Action scenes are amazing, all scenes seem very convincing. Mumbai’s slums are shown well, you don’t know what will happen next in the story and so you stay till the end. Shahid Kapoor has done an amazing job, he sees such a wonderful conviction that you are surprised. Shahid will forget Kabir Singh, his expression, action, body language, and dialogue delivery, are all so amazing that you won’t be able to lose sight. Shahid then stated that he had reached a different point in terms of acting. They don’t do bad movies, and bad acting is not at all. This film further enhances his stature. Pooja Hegde is fine, does not impress much. He allowed all the acting to be done by Shahid. Pavel Gulati’s work is good. Entrance Rana’s work is fantastic. Kubra Set could not impress anything special. Girish Kulkarni is frozen. Upendra Limaye has put life in small roles.
Rosshan Andrrews Malayalam is the elder director of cinema and Malayalam Cinema is doing wonders these days. The same conviction appears in this film, the hero is absolutely a hero, which you enjoy. The film is woven amazingly, with suspense the action dose is put in the perfect amount. The story of the film is written by Bobby – Sanjay and the film’s screenplay is written by Bobby – Sanjay, Abbas Dalal, Hussain Dalal, Arshad Syed, and Sumit Arora. That is, 6 people have written the screenplay of this film, and they have all done a good job. The story itself is the hero of a film and from here the hero does his work well. Jakes Bejoy and Vishal Mishra’s music is fine, background score is good.
The film’s biggest weak link is its filming. Mumbai should look like Mumbai in a story that considers it as a ritual, It is not like that. The atmosphere of the stories of films has been playing a big role in making them credible. Especially when the film’s hero’s dialect and moving shields represent a particular city. Amit Roy has not understood the soul of Mumbai here. In his film ‘Mumbai Police’, the way Roshan has mentioned the fast life of Mumbai, he has not created Mumbai here. What is the problem, only the technical team of this film can explain. His emphasis is not seen on the sound design of Subhash Sahu. When the scale of how many voices will not turn into noise, when has been spilled in Hindi cinema. Yes, the film’s casting department is strong. This happens because of inconsistent writing. Shahid Kapoor‘s sabotage performance is probably the only thing that makes ‘Deva’ a one-time watch. Shahid’s Energy, Aggression, and Raw Emotion elevate the film in the first half. In the second half, their character changes from head to toe. There is a chance in the life of a character who shoots a gun in the front when he is not shot from his hand. Shahid’s intensity in these scenes is amazing. My favorite scene in the film falls between Pavle Gulati and Shahid’s characters. Ann before Climax. When Deva feels that her theft was caught. Then the change in his voice and body language is niche work. Pavel Gulati rolls Rohan. His role is small, but his impact is big.
Actors like Entrance Rana and Kubra Sait seem to have been sidelined. Upendra Limaye leaves her influence in a five-minute roll. Pooja Hegde has played a journalist. But his character does not affect the film from anywhere. Whether or not that character was equal. Apart from Shahid’s performance in ‘Deva’, the background score of the film is the department that impresses you. Because those ears feel fresh. Typical Bollywood takes away from being a film. Since this film is set in Mumbai. Whatever your hero or villain wants to say, he is dead. So in the action scenes of the film, you get to hear Marathi rap. Which seems to be the use of the new variety. The background score of ‘Deva’ is scored by Jacques Bijoy.
This film puts all its weight on Climax. No hint is given of what is going to happen in Climax, nor can the audience find themselves standing. So he works in favor of the Element of Surprise film. However, if you compare the Climax of ‘Deva’ to the Climax of the original film, then it feels a bit lighter. The climax of ‘Mumbai Police’ in 2013 is very personal, so it is more shocking. Makers have changed her in ‘Deva’. Which makes it feel that people in the North are still not ready to accept LGBTq. But this is not the case. Karthik Aryan’s character in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3‘, included in this year’s most earned films, also holds a connection with this community.
Deva Movie Review: The Last Words
Overall, this film entertains us a lot, and must watch it because of Shahid’s amazing performance. If you are a fan of Shahid Kapoor and want to see a based thriller on an Intense Policeia background, you can watch the film, Deva. But slow speeds and weak screenplays have to be compromised. Climax can cause a little interest. It is being said that this Malayalam film is a remake of Mumbai Police, although after watching it nothing seems like it. This is a fresh film. Rosshan Andrrews ‘Deva’ grapples with duality like right-wrong, and moral-immoral. But his moment does not bend completely to one side. He is left to the audience. Hence the approach of the film is realistic. This is not a Bedimag film made in the name of a remake. Magar misses the small margin for becoming a good film.
