Then, Dear Child became a successful Netflix miniseries, available from September 7th. The catalog of Nordic thrillers on the streaming platform continues to expand. And as in this case, we find ourselves faced with a pulsating story full of twists and turns. Here we will tell you everything in detail, without neglecting any aspect of a story of violence against women, which despite its glacial atmosphere has a very warm heart. Here then is the explanation of the ending of Dear Child.

Lena, Where Are You?

The miniseries directed by Isabel Kleefeld and Julian Pörksen interweaves different temporal planes, showing with ad hoc flashbacks the events that led to the main plot of the story: the discovery of a mysterious blonde woman, hit by a car in the middle of the night, in some woods. Who is this woman and why do many think she is Lena Beck, who disappeared 13 years ago? The girl’s disappearance plunged her parents, Karin and Mathias into despair. The family friend, the policeman Gerd Bühling, is unable until then to solve the mystery. When a light-haired woman is run over after an excited escape, the Becks’ hopes are rekindled.

Hannah, the little girl accompanying the woman, tells the rescuers that she is her mother and that her name is Lena. Little her behaves very strangely, betraying a nature prone to obsession. Yet she is very firm when she talks about her mother’s blood type, AB, her rarest. As soon as they are taken to the hospital, the little girl continually shows her hands. We discover that it is a disorder developed as a response to the oppression suffered by her father, a very strict man who locked her up in a sort of bunker together with her little brother Jonathan, and her mother Lena. Hannah also confides to Nurse Ruth that her mother accidentally hit her father on the head. And that her brother is still at home. Under the knife, Lena risks a shock due to a wrong transfusion. AB is not her group. But it’s Lena Beck’s.

All-Round Investigations

Meanwhile, the police investigate the accident involving the alleged Lena. Agent Aida Kurt has the area where the accident occurred searched and approaches an inscrutable military zone, linked to NATO. Having received news of the possible death of Hannah’s father and the presence of another child, she tries to force the gates to enter the man’s refuge. The operation turns out to be more dangerous than expected because the house is surrounded by anti-personnel mines. However, after an explosion that almost costs the life of a colleague, the woman manages to free Jonathan and get him to safety. The child is terrified, does not speak, and has watched over the body of a man for many hours. The picture gradually emerges. Hannah and Jonathan are indeed children of Lena Beck, but the hospitalized woman is not Lena Beck, but Jasmin Grass. An esteemed copywriter was kidnapped and imprisoned by her jailer to mother the two children. During her detention, the woman was transformed into Lena, dyeing her hair blonde.
