DC Universe: Here Are The 10 New Studio Projects Announced by James Gunn!
James Gunn has finally announced plans for the new DC Universe coming from DC Studios. It’s been a rough few months for Warner Bros. Discovery, which has been making a lot of changes behind the scenes. While several movies and TV shows have been cancelled, the studio is attempting to go in a new direction. DC Studios was launched in November 2022, with James Gunn and Peter Safran named co-CEOs. Over the past couple of weeks, Gunn has teased on social media that several DCU plans would be revealed this month.
Here is The List of Films and TV Series Revealed by James Gunn for The New DC Universe!
James Gunn and Peter Safran, who handle movies, TV shows, animation, and video games for the DC Universe, have finally revealed their plans for the first half of Chapter 1 (their version of a Phase) for the DCU. The chapter is called Gods & Monsters and will start in 2025. The announcement came with a total of 10 movies and TV series that will be interconnected in this new universe. The goal is to release two films and two series a year.
The 5 DC Universe Movies
Superman: Legacy
Gunn is currently writing the script, and Safran hopes the director will also helm the DC Universe film. For release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy will not be an origin story, but will focus on Clark’s struggle to balance his life as a superhero and human. The story will also explore Superman as a beacon of kindness in a world that believes that kind of feeling is antiquated.
The Authority
Gunn is currently outlining the film, which will be based on characters from Wildstorm. The DC Universe imprint will come with the live-action film. According to DC Studios, The Authority explores anti-heroes, who have good intentions, as they have to go to extremes due to a corrupted and broken world.
The Brave and the Bold
This will be a Batman and Robin story, with a new star playing the Dark Knight. Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck will therefore not be the protagonists of this film. The story sees Bruce discovering that Damian Wayne is his son. Trained to be an assassin, Bruce must now raise Damian under his wing. The Brave and the Bold will also include other members of the Bat-family. It has not been revealed if they have decided which actors will join the DC Universe to play the characters, or if the Studios will also use stars who have already appeared in the past.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
The Steel Woman has gotten her own solo film, which will be based on Tom King’s recent DC Universe run as the “architect” on the project. While Superman grew up on Earth with kind parents, Supergirl remained on a piece of the planet Krypton, which has drifted away over time. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will explore her life after being forced to watch many of her loved ones die tragically.
Swamp Thing
DC Studios is working on a film that explores the dark origin story of the Swamp Thing.
The 5 DC Universe TV Series
Creature Commandos
This was the only animated series announced as part of the slate. Gunn has already written seven episodes for the series. Creature Commandos will center stage Rick Flagg Sr. (who will appear elsewhere in live action, who will be played by the voice actor of the animated series), Nina Mazursky, Doctor Phosphorus, Eric Frankenstein, the wife of Frankenstein, GI Robot and Weasel.
Waller
The previously announced Amanda Waller spin-off series is continuing as Viola Davis is increasingly excited to star in the DC Universe. The series will take place between Peacemaker seasons 1 and 2because Gunn doesn’t have time for the latter. Doom Patrol executive producer Jeremy Carver and Watchmen writer Christal Henry are directing the series.
Lanterns
Will center on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. According to DC Studios, it’s a detective mystery with the Green Lanterns acting as super cops in the Earth district. The lanterns will lead to a story, for now generic, about an ancient horror as it intertwines between films and TV series of the DC Universe.
Paradise Lost
This is a prequel series to Wonder Woman in the style of Game of Thrones, focusing on the origin of Themyscira before the time of Diana Prince. Paradise Lost will explore how the political game works on Themyscira and what an all-female society actually does to gain power.
Booster Gold
A series focusing on the future tech superhero with imposter syndrome is in the works. DC Studios is currently talking to an actor, unspecified, to play the lead role.
