They manage to free themselves from danger and escape with the help of someone mysterious. Smoker (Callum Kerr) also tries to capture Luffy, but fails for the same reason. Smoker decides to follow them, but Vice Admiral Garp (Vincent Regan) tells him that there are other dangers to deal with. One of them is Dragon, leader of the Revolutionary Army. Garp orders her to catch a member of the Baroque Works, and Smoker allows Tashigi (Julia Rehwald) to accompany her. Meanwhile, Luffy and his crew set out in search of the “One Piece”. After crossing Reverse Mountain, the Merry ends up in the belly of a giant whale, Laboon, so Luffy must find a way to save his friends. Thanks to Crocus, an old expatriate, he learns the story of the whale and gets it to free its crew.

One Piece Season 2 Ending Explained: What Happened to Luffy and the Straw Hats after the Last Battle?

Before leaving Laboon, the Straw Hats deal with two members of the Baroque, Miss Wednesday (Charithra Chandran) and Mr. 9 (Daniel Lasker), who seek to take over the Merry. The crew overpowers them and takes them prisoner. However, after speaking with Miss Wednesday, Luffy believes he can trust her and frees her. This allows him to escape with his companion to Whiskey Peak Island, a place where the protagonists also arrive. The leader of Whiskey Peak, Igaram, receives the Straw Hats with open arms, but it is a trap, since that island is controlled by the Baroque, and the residents trick the pirates into murdering them. Thanks to Nami and Zoro, their group does not suffer the same fate. And after a battle that his rival can’t stop thinking about, Zoro defeats most of them. Meanwhile, Luffy stops Miss Wednesday, who tries to steal his boat with the help of Igaram.

However, the latter are not who they say they are. The appearance of Ms. Valentine (Jazzara Jaslyn) and Mr. 5 (Camrus Johnson) reveals that Miss Wednesday is actually Princess Nefertari Vivi of Alabasta, who infiltrated the Baroque Works to save her kingdom from chaos caused by Mr. 0 (Joe Manganiello) and Miss All Sunday (Lera Abova), who work on Operation Utopia. After that adventure and losing Igaram, the protagonists of “One Piece” arrive at the Little Garden Island, where they encounter dinosaurs, giants, and other enemies: Mr. 3 (David Dastmalchian) and Miss Goldenweek (Sophia Anne Caruso), those who use their powers to capture the majority. While Usopp saves the day, Sanji contacts Mr. 0 and identifies himself as “Mr. Prince” after deceiving his interlocutor.

Who is Mr.0 in One Piece?

As we discovered in the series, Mr. 0 is the code name of Crocodile, one of the biggest villains in the entire original manga. This character, the one played by the actor Joe Manganiello, is the founder and person in charge of the Baroque Works. He is a skilled user after having consumed the Devil Fruit Suna Suna, which gave him sand powers. With them, he becomes the most dangerous and brutal enemy Luffy has faced to date. Besides Mr. 0/Crocodile, he is actually one of the Seven Sea Warlords (Shichibukai), a group of very powerful pirates who allied themselves with the World Government. In exchange for “forgiveness” for their crimes, they are in charge of cleaning the sea of any other buccaneers and criminals with an air of grandeur. However, Crocodile uses this title to your advantage to carry out your own plans.

What is Crocodile’s Operation Utopia?

Those plans, Crocodile, are revealed in the season 2 finale of One Piece. In the last scene, the villain tells Miss All Sunday that Operation Utopia has begun. This is the character’s true secret project. In reality, the Baroque Works are just his tool, but what he really wants is something much bigger than forming an army. As described by Garp at a certain time, the kingdom of Alabasta is in an extreme situation on the brink of a civil war. Alabasta is ruled by the family Nefertari, to which it belongs, Vivi, the princess and heir to the throne. However, with the Baroque Works, Crocodile has managed to generate a very tense situation. His final plan is to overthrow the rulers and, in the long run, take advantage of the chaos to take over the country. In itself, this would be enough excuse for the World Government to capture him. Therefore, he needs his secret identity, Mr. 0, to get away with it. Otherwise, he would lose his rank of Sea Warlord. But his motivations go beyond ruling a country.

The real reason why Crocodile wants to take Alabasta with his Operation Utopia because he knows the true secret of the kingdom. And as revealed in the manga, and it will be seen in season 3 of One Piece, this secret is that the location is hidden in Alabasta Pluto, one of the three Ancestral Weapons of the world. It is an ancient and gigantic warship capable of causing great destruction wherever it passes. It is even said that he can easily destroy an entire island with the shots of his cannons. Nobody knows where he is exactly; his whereabouts have been unknown for centuries, but the key clue is found in Alabasta.

The Nefertari keep Pluto’s secret safe. But Crocodile wants to take over the ship to become one of the most powerful men on the planet, capable of even challenging the World Government. And, of course, as he acknowledges in the final sentence, he will be one step closer to getting the One Piece. To do this, before he needs to conquer Alabasta. That is why he has created the Baroque Works in secret and is willing to provoke a civil war in the kingdom. When the people defeat the Nefertari, unknowingly spurred on by the army of undercover criminals, he will set himself up as the new ruler, find Pluto, and forever change the fate of the world. Except that Luffy, Vivi, and the others arrive in the kingdom in time to prevent it. Something we will discover in season 3 of One Piece, which will premiere on Netflix soon.

What Does The “One Piece” Season 2 Finale Mean?

Luffy and the Straw Hats continue their journey, but change course to Alabasta to help Vivi. In addition to worrying about the Baroque, who are targeting them for helping the Princess, as All Sunday warned them, they must find a doctor for Nami, who is seriously ill. Vivi proposes to go to the kingdom of Drum and ask King Wapol (Rob Colletti) for help. Upon arrival, they discover that their ruler has abandoned them and taken all the doctors. Kureha (Katey Sagal), the only doctor left, is on top of the snowy mountain, so Luffy must climb alongside Sanji to save his friend. Logran arrives just in time, and Nami is saved. As the young woman recovers, visitors learn about Chopper and his emotional story, which involves Dr. Hiriluk (Mark Harelik) and what his death meant to the kingdom of Drum.

What Happened to Luffy and the Straw Hats?

As Luffy approaches Chopper, King Wapol returns to the kingdom of Drum after eating the devil fruit provided to him by Miss All Sunday, who appears before Princess Vivi to announce what is going to happen and how interested she is in knowing the result of the confrontation. Will Luffy and his crew be able to defeat Wapol and save the kingdom? Dalton (Ty Keogh) tries to stop the tyrant, but discovers that he has fused his soldiers with his weapons. While Zoro and Usopp try to save the villagers from the soldiers, Vivi goes up to the castle to warn the rest of the crew. Wapol and his lieutenants follow them. Kureha prefers to escape, but Chopper decides to stay to help.

After an arduous battle, Sanji and Chopper manage to defeat the lieutenants. Luffy and Vivi confront Wapol and also manage to stop him. After completing the mission, Luffy invites Chopper to join the Straw Hats. Although he refuses at first, he finally accepts, as does Vivi, who, before arriving in Alabasta, reveals that Mr. 0‘s true identity is Sir Crocodile, who seeks to destroy Alabastra to complete his plan alongside Nico Robin (Miss All Sunday). On the other hand, Kureha comments on Luffy’s resemblance to Gol D. Roger.

The Defeat of Wapol and the Liberation of Drum?

In the showdown, each crew member has their own role.

  • Zoro and Usopp help defend the island alongside Dalton and the inhabitants.
  • Sanji and Chopper take care of Wapol’s main allies.
  • Luffy confronts the former king directly.

The fight ends with Luffy throwing Wapol out of the fight in spectacular fashion, ending his attempt to regain power. With the villain defeated, Drum is freed from his tyranny, and the country begins to rebuild. The final scene of the conflict shows the famous pink snow cherry trees covering the sky, an image that symbolizes the new beginning of the kingdom.

Chopper Officially Joins the Crew

One of the most important moments at the end is the farewell between Chopper and Dr. Kureha. Although she passes the scene insulting him and telling him that he is ungrateful for leaving, he is actually hiding his sadness. He does not want to be sentimental in front of his student, so he uses his usual abrupt nature as a shield. Before Chopper leaves, he has already prepared his medicines and medical equipment. In other words, he knew from the beginning that his student would end up going to sea. Thus, Chopper boards the Going Merry and officially becomes the Straw Hats’ doctor.

Is Vivi Part of the Crew?

Throughout the season, Princess Vivi insists that she is only traveling with them out of necessity. His real goal was always to return to his country and stop the conspiracy that threatens his kingdom. But in the end, something important happens. When Luffy promises to help her save Alabasta, Vivi stops seeing herself as just a passenger. Accept that, in some way, you are already part of the group. However, their situation is different from the rest. Vivi has a duty to her people, so her role is more that of a permanent ally than a permanent member of the ship. For Luffy and the others, she will remain one of their own… even if she doesn’t always sail with them.

The Revelation about Crocodile

The season finale also makes it clear who will be the next big enemy. During some episodes, a mysterious criminal leader named Mr. 0 is mentioned. In the last chapter, his identity is finally revealed: he is Crocodile, a former pirate who is now part of the Seven Sea Warriors. This detail is key because it means that he officially works for the World Government. That is why his plans must be kept secret: if it is discovered that he is manipulating an allied country like Alabasta, he would lose his position. Everything indicates that Crocodile is causing an internal conflict in the kingdom to take advantage of the chaos and take control.

The Mystery of “D.” and the Connection with Roger?

In one of the most curious moments at the end, Dr. Kureha mentions something that changes the way she sees Luffy. He reveals that the Pirate King’s real name was not Gold Roger, but Gol D. Roger. This connects directly to Luffy’s name: Monkey D. Luffy. That mysterious “D.” seems to belong to a special lineage that has historically been an enemy of the power that rules the world. Although the series still doesn’t fully explain what it means, it becomes clear that Luffy shares something fundamental with Roger… beyond his dream of becoming the Pirate King.

The Road to Alabasta

The season ends with the Going Merry sailing again. The next destination is Alabasta, Vivi’s kingdom. The Baroque Works is already moving its pieces, and the situation is close to becoming a civil war. Unlike previous seasons, where each island presented a different adventure, everything indicates that the next story will focus on a single setting and a much larger conflict.

Conclusion

The season 2 finale closes the Drum Kingdom stage, adds Chopper to the crew, and strengthens the bond between Luffy and Vivi. But the most important thing is that it expands the board. We now know that behind many of the problems is the Baroque Works organization and its leader, Crocodile. Furthermore, the series drops a clue about the mystery of “D,” which connects Luffy with the legendary figure of Gol D. Roger. The Straw Hats have barely entered the Grand Line… and the real adventure is about to begin.
