Night City once again demonstrates that taking on large corporations can have devastating consequences. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, released on Netflix, presents a new story of mercenaries, technological experiments, and characters who end up paying a terrible price for trying to escape the system. Night City, we learned this after the first season of Cyberpunk, doesn’t often give its inhabitants the luxury of emerging unscathed from a story. The ending of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 instead decides to do something different than the first season: it leaves D’s fate open and, alongside the tragedy, it shows some characters trying to start over.

The plot revolves around David, also known as D, a young man who seeks revenge on Arasaka after a group of mercenaries destroys his community. His path ends up crossing with Project Capricorn and Capri, an artificial intelligence capable of providing extraordinary abilities to those who manage to integrate it into their body. At the same time, we meet Talia, a young woman subjected to numerous cybernetic modifications who is progressively losing control of her body. The outcome brings both stories together when Capri takes over Talia and unleashes a battle that ends up involving Kang Tao, Arasaka, and Militech. Although several protagonists survive, David’s fate is deliberately left open.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Ending Explained: What Is Capri and Why Is Talia Trying to Kill Kiril?
Capri is an artificial intelligence developed by Arasaka within the Capricorn Project. Their goal was to create a technology capable of granting extraordinary powers to a human organism, although the experiments were deadly for those who underwent them. Researcher Kyoko finally gets David to integrate the program into her system, but the artificial intelligence ends up dividing, and a part of it is installed in Talia. The situation worsens when the two parts of Capri meet again in the young woman’s body. Talia was suffering the consequences of her numerous cybernetic modifications and accepted that artificial intelligence had taken control, although she still retained some of her consciousness.
His last wish is to kill Kiril, the man he considers responsible for much of his suffering. Instead of trying to save her, Kiril orders Kang Tao’s troops to eliminate her, convinced that his daughter has disappeared and that only Capri remains. The decision is especially cruel because Talia still proves to retain human feelings. When King tries to stop her and is caught in a military attack, she uses some of his armor to protect him. However, believing that he has died, he definitively loses control and begins to transform into an enormous mechanical structure built with the vehicles and materials he finds in his path.
How Does the Battle Against Capri End and What Happens to Kiril?
The chase takes the protagonists to the Badlands, a less populated area on the outskirts of Night City. There, Kang Tao decides to order an airstrike to destroy Talia and the technology that controls her body. Their priority is not to protect citizens but to prevent Capri from ending up in the hands of Arasaka or Militech. While David tries to get closer to Talia, Kyoko prepares an electromagnetic device capable of neutralizing artificial intelligence systems. The problem is that its activation can also be lethal to anyone who stays too close.
Finally, Kyoko activates the device and causes Talia’s mechanical structure, the missiles, and the vehicle in which Kiril is fleeing to fall. The latter dies during the accident, so Talia does not kill him personally, although her wish for revenge ends up coming true. David manages to reach the young woman and extract the device containing Capri. Instead of destroying him, he decides to reinstall the artificial intelligence in his own body and gives it to Talia, Roman, and Omi so they can get her to safety. Kyoko warns him that the big three corporations will send their forces to capture him and recover the technology. David understands that he cannot return to Night City without endangering his companions and decides to face only those who pursue him.
Does David Die During the Final Showdown?
After saying goodbye to his friends, David enters the Badlands with Capri installed in his system. There he faces the forces sent by Kang Tao, Arasaka, and Militech, who want to recover a technology capable of completely transforming the balance of power between corporations. The series does not conclusively show whether David dies during that battle. Roman later manages to recover the camera he had lent him so that he could continue recording his own story, but the images do not allow us to establish with certainty what happened.
The outcome suggests that David and Capri could have met their deaths, especially from the Moon-related images, which they recall at the end of the first season. However, there is also the possibility that they have managed to escape and remain hidden. The uncertainty is consistent with the evolution of the character. David began seeking revenge against Arasaka and ended up becoming a symbol of resistance against big companies.
However, his growing power also distanced him from his initial objectives until he became a figure capable of causing as much destruction as the organizations he intended to defeat. What is clear is that their rebellion fails to end corporate dominance. The companies subsequently manipulate information about the events and maintain their influence over Night City, while the young man’s destiny becomes a new urban legend.
What Finally Happens to Talia and King?
Talia manages to survive the confrontation and returns to Night City with King, Roman and Omi. After extracting Capri from her body, her companions manage to stabilize her and remove a good part of the cybernetic modifications that had caused the deterioration of her body.
However, the series does not confirm that Talia is completely cured. Her condition remains delicate and everything indicates that she could have little time left to live, although she manages to temporarily regain control over herself.

The young woman decides to leave Night City accompanied by King, who has also suffered numerous losses. Avida died trying to save Talia and their relationship with Kiril ended marked by violence and betrayal. King, for his part, had come to consider suicide and must now find a reason to continue living. Before leaving, Talia says goodbye to Roman and encourages him to continue making films. It reminds him that his recordings allow us to preserve the stories of people who are disappearing and that his work can give meaning to everything he has witnessed.
The ending does not confirm that Talia is going to die, but it has the tone of a last meeting. She and King leave the city while Roman decides to continue recording, aware that his images can keep alive the memory of those who participated in that story.
The Fate of D. and The Mystery of Capri?
So the question we ask ourselves is, what really happens to him? History doesn’t say it openly, but we can find two possible readings. D. He could die after launching himself into space towards a destination he doesn’t know, or he could be alive thanks to Capri, who could know how to lead him there. After all, we have seen that it has boundless capabilities, but that is not enough to have security. Bartosz Sztybor, the series’ writer, said he knows what happens after season 2 but doesn’t want to reveal it.
Capri also remains an enigma. It is a construct linked to Arasaka’s secret experiments and appears to be able to draw on capabilities associated with the Blackwall, the barrier separating the human network from the dangerous artificial intelligences beyond. And the fact that it can tap into powers linked to the Blackwall raises the question of whether it can truly be controlled by humans. Furthermore, another question is, where does Capri’s consciousness come from? We know that Soulkiller technology exists in the Cyberpunk universe capable of converting a human consciousness into a digital construct. And considering the humans involved in the experiments on Capri, one wonders whether it could contain within it the consciences of all these people involved. It is not, however, an answer given by the series.
At the end of the series, we also discover D’s full name. It’s David, and in the finale the boy reflects on the legend of Night City and even wonders what David Martinez thought before he died. The call, along with the journey to heaven, invites discussion with the protagonist of the first season, with some fans wondering if Capri might be able to contain the conscience of the first protagonist, but obviously this is just conjecture.
The True Meaning of the End of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2
The second season once again raises one of the great themes of the universe. Cyberpunk: the enormous power of corporations capable of using people as instruments of experimentation and then getting rid of them when they are no longer useful. David tries to take revenge on Arasaka but ends up becoming the bearer of the same technology that caused the destruction of his community. Talia, for her part, loses control of her body after undergoing modifications that were supposed to help her survive. Both become victims of a system that considers their lives less important than Capri’s commercial value.
The outcome also does not present a definitive victory over corporations. Although David manages to save Talia and confront his pursuers, Kang Tao, Arasaka and Militech continue to operate while information about what happened is manipulated to protect their interests. The last conversation between Talia and Roman introduces a more intimate conclusion. Faced with companies obsessed with controlling bodies, technology and power, the young man finds in his films a way to preserve something that those organizations cannot easily buy: the stories of those who have lived and died in Night City.
Therefore, although David could have died and Talia faces an uncertain future, her experiences do not completely disappear. Roman continues to record and preserve his memories, while King finds a new opportunity to move forward. The end of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 leaves David’s survival unresolved but confirms that saving Talia has been his last known great victory against a world where corporations almost always end up prevailing.
