Collar Bomb Review: The Story
The story of Collar Bomb is in the Sanawar area of Himachal Pradesh, where SHO Manoj Hessey has become a hero by solving a case. Manoj along with his son Akshay reaches the Shanti Sabha organized in the prestigious school in the area, which is kept in the memory of the school student Neha. Neha had disappeared a few days back while returning from school and a few days later her dead body was found from a well.
Manoj had solved this case along with ASI Ratan Negi and killed Neha’s suspected kidnapper. While the function is going on, a teenager named Shoaib Ali arrives with a Collar bomb around his neck. He takes all the children present there, teachers, some parents, Manoj Hessey and his son hostage. Shoaib makes a strange demand that if the parents want to save their child, either the mother or the father has to die. Whoever accepts this condition, his child will be abandoned. Shoaib is not doing all this on his own accord, he is getting it done by a lady named Rita. Instead of saving the lives of the children, Rita makes Manoj Hessey do some more crimes.
Meanwhile, the local police along with the Special Forces personnel arrive at the school, who devise a plan to rescue the hostages. After knowing this, Shoaib kills a girl child. Here, politics starts heating up in the area and the mob burns the dhaba where Shoaib used to work as a shelter for terrorists. ASI Sumitra saves the old man running the dhaba and exposes the leader who instigated the mob. Manoj Hessey does everything that Rita makes to save the lives of the children.
Manoj asks Sumitra for help. Sumitra agrees to help. In this sequence, he comes to know the truth of Manoj’s past, due to which all this ruckus is going on. By now it is clear that this is not a terrorist incident, but a terrible mistake of Manoj’s past, for which the Collar bomb has been devised to avenge it.
What is that secret of Manoj Hessey? What is his connection to Rita, who is taking revenge? What does this have to do with children being held hostage in school? Why is Rita making Manoj commit a crime with Hessey? The answers to all such questions move the story of Collar Bomb forward and startle the script.
The Review and Analysis
Screenplay plays an important role in thriller films. How the situations are presented and how the actors are reacting to them matters a lot. The script of Collar Bomb is written in such a way that the viewer has to watch with patience, as some things take time to get clear. A little care has to be taken to understand by connecting the ends of the events, but after reaching a particular place, everything becomes clear and the story gets caught by adding the ends of the events back and forth. Due to this catch-up, the film gets a bit tiring, but if you stick with it, it will be fun when the layers are opened. The dialogues of Nisarg Megata and Gaurav Sharma are effective.
The story takes different turns. Sometimes it seems to be a terrorist attack and sometimes it looks like a Hindu-Muslim color. As the story progresses, the personal lives of some people also get involved in it. Murders happen and some attempted murders. The viewer is constantly thinking that what is happening after all? Why is it happening? Gyanesh Jhoting had made a Marathi film in 2018, Rakshasa. This suspense thriller was highly appreciated. Suspense and thrill is also in ‘Collar Bomb’ and the 87-minute film moves forward in a straight fashion. The ending of the film, however, does not excite or surprise much. Despite this, there is a good audience of thriller films on OTT and he will like it.
Collar Bomb Review: The Performances
Jimmy Shergill has once again proved his acting ability in the role of SHO Manoj Hessey. But, Asha Negi’s acting surprises. As the character’s graph changes, Asha’s attitude and attitude change. In a conversation with Jagran.com, Asha had also said about director Nyanesh that he likes to take organic reactions, which is also reflected in the expressions of the actors.
Rajshree Deshpande is a wonderful actress. His character brings a shocking twist to the story. In the rest of the cast, Sparsh Srivastava has done a fine job in the character of Shoaib Ali. In the character of Akshay Hesey, Naman Jain has played as many scenes as he got.
The number of fans of Jimmy Shergill is also very good. Which especially likes them in police or military uniform. Here, Jimmy has come in uniform in films like A Wednesday’s Day, Special 26 and Madari. But the special thing in this film is that Manoj Hessey also has a 13-year-old son (Naman Jain/Chillar Party) and the texture and texture of their relationship can be seen in the story. Jimmy Shergill has a long film career, in which he has been moving silently and here he has also established himself on OTT. Earlier, Rangbaaz has appeared in series like Rangbaaz Phir Se and Your Honor.
Rajshri Deshpande (Mom, Manto, The Sky is Pink, Kanpuriye, Choked) is active late in the film and leaves an impact in her complexion. While Asha Negi (ASI Smriti) has got a long screen time. She would have done justice to her character if this role was written better. Another problem with her seems to be that she could not properly capture the hill tone of the speech. Sparsh Srivastava, the star of Netflix’s Jamtara: Sabka Number Aayega, is almost at the center of the story here, but it’s not something you can remember. So his fans will be disappointed. The biggest drawback of Sparsh’s character is that despite being important, he does not have layers and he is very flat. There was scope for betterment in this too.
Collar Bomb Review: The Last Words
The pace and editing of the film are tight. Camerawork is also good. The beauty of the hillstation is seen in it. This is the reason why it does not hurt to watch it in less than one and a half hours. Throughout the story, the hero of the film runs from here to there to complete all the tasks given by an unknown Collar to save the school children. If even a single task is not completed, the children will lose their lives. The only message of ‘Collar Bomb’ is that it is wrong to judge anyone by looking at their caste, religion and appearance. Wrong decisions take lives on the wrong path. Especially people sitting in high places do this wrong thing. The Collar bomb is a lesson for them.
