Chhorii 2 Review: If You Are Fond of Horror Films Then This Is The Best For You
Chhorii 2 Review: The wait for the second part of the horror film Chhorii, released in 2021, is over. Chhorii 2 was released on Amazon Prime on April 11. This time, the story has become even more interesting because the child growing in her womb for whom Nushrratt Bharuccha fought with the monsters in the first part has been born, and once again, his life is in danger. There is no doubt that in the last few years, the space of horror in films has been redefined. In the fifties and sixties, horror films like ‘Mahal’, ‘Woh Kaun Thi’, and ‘Kohra’ dominated. Then came the era of horror (a mixture of horror and sex), which was well run by the horror films of the Ramsay Brothers. After that came Ram Gopal Varma’s thriller-horror and Vikram Bhatt’s ghostly films. In the past, horror-comedy was in full swing, and now our filmmakers are bringing issues based on Indian legends. The film that takes the same series forward is Chhorii 2.

Amazon Prime should be applauded for being able to find stories for Hindi film viewers that have their roots in India. Unlike Netflix, their Indianness is not fake. The hard work of Amazon Prime’s creative team for Hindi viewers is reflected in their original films and web series. The real difference comes when the difference is seen between the story told to them and the outcome of the film or web series made from that story. Horror films have a separate market all over the world. Hollywood horror films are widely watched in India. After the Ramsay Brothers and the Bhakhri Brothers, no one has worked with intensity in this category of cinema. Vikram Bhatt makes a film on wandering souls by mistake. But, no Hindi film production company has taken the risk of investing to develop horror as a category and to create a team of dedicated people for it. Director Vishal Furia often meets us in special shows of horror films held in Mumbai. Often, we watch these films sitting in adjacent seats. His new film, Chhorii 2, is his next endeavor into horror.
Chhorii 2 Review: The Story Plot
On the lines of the sequel, the story begins after 7 years, where Sakshi (Nushrratt Bharuccha) is living an anonymous life with her 7-year-old daughter Ishani (Hardika Sharma). Before taking the story forward, let us tell you that in the first part, seven years ago, Sakshi ran away from her husband and in-laws to save her and her daughter’s life. Sakshi fought against a society full of bad customs and rituals, which kills girls as soon as they are born. Inspector Samar (Gashmeer Mahajan) supports Sakshi in her rehabilitation at the new place. He was the one who saved Sakshi seven years ago as well. Ishani is suffering from a very rare disease. Her whole body starts burning with blisters when she goes out in the sun. This is the reason why she does not even get admission in school, but Sakshi is not aware that this disease of her daughter Ishani will become a means of taking them back to the dark past. One day, after Ishani is suddenly kidnapped by her presumed dead husband (Saurabh Goyal), Sakshi and Samar search for her and reach the same terrifying village and haunted sugarcane fields from whose clutches they had escaped.
This time, there is also a Dasi Maa (Soha Ali Khan) in that village, who is the wife of Pradhan Ji. The villagers consider Pradhan Ji to be the first human. He lives in a mysterious cave and has been surviving on the ‘surrender’ of virgin girls for years. Surrender means that the youth of young girls is handed over to him. Sakshi and Ishani are imprisoned in a terrifying underground world inside the village well. Dasi Maa is going to surrender Ishani to Pradhan Ji, after which the villagers will believe that prosperity will be restored in their area. Will Sakshi be able to save her 7-year-old daughter from falling prey to this evil practice, or will she be sacrificed? To know this, you will have to enter this world of horror. The film Chhorii 2, which was made as a sequel to the film Chhorii released on Amazon Prime four years ago, has the same background as the first film. Some characters are new, and some are old.

The story starts in the city and goes to the village. In the same sugarcane fields whose paths are like a maze. The police there are a bit lazy. They have not heard of anything like drones. The case is about killing girls as soon as they are born, so the dialect has been kept like the folk language of Rajasthan and Haryana. There is a dialect coach in the film, but he must have also been told that there is no need to work with too much honesty because there is no guarantee that every Hindi speaker will understand Marwari or Haryanvi. So a maid mother speaking Khariboli mixed Marwari mixed Haryanvi is at the center of the story this time. She is the wife of Pradhan Ji. Pradhan ji is described as ‘Adi Manav’, he gets youth from virgin girls. How? Its entire process is shown in the film. So that the new generation does not get shocked on hearing the word ‘Adi Manav’, the heroine of the film Sakshi is shown teaching a lesson on ‘Cave Man’ in her class right in the beginning. In the language of cinema, this is called setup and payback. Sakshi’s daughter has grown up. The story begins seven years after the story of Chhorii.
Chhorii 2 Review and Analysis
Director Vishal Furia has to be praised for not choosing popular genres like horror, comedy, or horror in his storytelling but instead making folk tales the basis of the film. The director creates an anti-women world inside the tunnels, which is a symbol of the slavery of women. Director Vishal Furia, along with writer Vishal Kapoor, has very brilliantly woven issues like killing of girls as soon as they are born, child marriage, raising girls by giving them concoction, extreme hatred towards the girl caste with horror, but their sequences have become very long, which is why at many places the story becomes dull and feels repetitive, but despite this the horror maintains its horror. VFX could have been better, but Anshul Chaubey’s camera work and Ketan Sodhia’s music are enough to send a shiver down the spine. Some scenes shot from top angles have turned out to be amazing. The climax is strong. Horror lovers can also call it a slow burn.
In terms of acting, whether it is Nushrratt Bharuccha or Soha Ali Khan, neither of them has proved to be inferior. Nusrat is the center of the film. She has got a very strong role of bringing back her daughter from the ghostly world in this film, which Nusrat makes special with her performance. Soha Ali Khan, who is seen in select roles, has not allowed the role of Dasi Maa to become over the top anywhere in the guise of horror. This character, bound in the shackles of slavery, is as scary as it is courageous when the time comes. Child artist Hardika Sharma wins hearts with her innocent acting. The scene where she is made a bride is very touching. Since this is a female-dominated film, the male characters do not get much screen space in it. Despite this, Gamsheer Mahajan in the role of Samar and Saurabh Goyal in the role of the husband have done justice to their characters. The supporting cast is fine.

Soha Ali Khan is admirable in casting. Haryanvi’s accent and rustic woman’s body he caught well. Nushrat is average in Sakshi’s role. Somewhere, as a combative mother, she is doing fine. In Climax, the blood on his face looks fake, and in the end, his continent is also lethargic. The director explains in Vishal Furia & Credits how little girls are married in the country and die due to pregnancy. Reading these plates makes us serious, but the film is so dependent on just messaging that the horror fails to engage or entertain the viewer while innovating something new in the genre. The effect of Rahi Anil Barve’s “Tumbbad” on the film looks clear. But “Tumbbad” was preferred because she plays very little on greed messaging and makes it crazy with cinema craft. The horror heard in childhood presents stories of ghosts in a very Indianized narrative-traditional manner.
If you have a question about whether this film is a horror or not, then many scenes in Chhorii 2 will make you fear for a second. Makers have failed to scare the audience too much in Nushrratt Bharuccha‘s well-known scene and Soha Ali Khan’s scene. However, a plus point of this film is that in a simple way, the director has exposed the evils of the society running in the name of practice, which has been going on even today, but people avoid talking about it. Such misdeeds are more frightening than the ghosts of a horror film. The story of the film is extremely strong, and the issue is also good, but the film has many loopholes. Like why Sakshi’s daughter Ishani and Maid mother are allergic to the sun, you will not understand at all. Second, when the witness kills her husband, many souls are saved in him, but when she saves the daughter from the chief, she becomes weak, and the maid mother saves her. The maid who has sacrificed many children till now, Nusrat’s daughter also does not wake up her motherhood, but a dialogue from Nusrat changes her thoughts, which is also very difficult to digest.

It has to be kept in mind that in the year 2025, we are watching a film in which, to explain the logic of the story, the director has to show statistics after the film ends that contain information about child marriage, etc. The evil practice of child marriage is continuing in the country. The reason for this is political compulsions somewhere and the lethargy of the administration somewhere else. Many of the NGOs engaged in this work focus more on their publicity and less on ground work. The girl in the film Chhorii 2 is Hardika Sharma. Ishani is the seven-year-old daughter of Nushrratt Bharuccha‘s character, Sakshi. She cannot go to school to study because the sunlight burns her skin. She is her mother’s beloved. It feels very good when she calls the helper working in the house Rani Maa. If children are taught to respect helpers from childhood, then when they grow up and reach important positions in a company, they do not even think of insulting these people by standing in the middle of the way. Dasi Maa and Ishani’s skin is the same. Although their age is unknown, Dasi Maa sees Ishani as her Pradhan’s new daughter-in-law. A seven-year-old girl is brought up by giving her medicines. You must have read news about girls being kidnapped from villages and tribal areas and being ‘brought up’ by giving them oxytocin injections before selling them. Here, this injection is in the form of a decoction.
Vishal Furia has woven a good story for the film Chhorii 2, but the formulas that he has woven around it to spread fear have not only become too long but have also become very familiar to horror film lovers. Saurabh Goyal’s return in the role of Sakshi’s husband is impressive. The climax, where the departed souls fight the devil along with Sakshi, is also good, but the patience required from the audience to reach there is the real litmus test of this film. After a good start, the film starts becoming very boring in the middle. Sometimes Ishani’s search for her mother in the tunnels, sometimes the mother’s search for Ishani, then Rajbir’s search for Sakshi and Sakshi’s helper policeman also wandering in these tunnels, seems very repetitive in some places. The background music of the film is also not very effective. In such stories of rural areas, the folk music of that place should be given a chance. Anshul Chaubey has certainly supported his director shoulder-to-shoulder with the camera, but overall, the film does not have any impressive element that makes it memorable. Vishal Furia should have also avoided creating a scene like the Harry Potter series of films, where a person’s soul is pulled out through the face.

Looking at “Chhorii 2“, we wait for him to scare you, blow your senses, and make you laugh. But nothing like this happens. We are uncomfortable when nine ten-ten-year-old boys drag the witness like a dead animal with a rope in a well and laugh at him when he hits his head on the stones. But the impulse of script and craft there is so strong that we cannot get angry or scared. The elusive powers of the maid mother in the film also do not understand. The ending of the film is not done; the maid’s mother and Ishani survive, but Sakshi is trapped in the same well with Pradhan Ji. In the end, she tells the maid that it must die, otherwise, she will come back, and the film ends here. It is clear from the end of Chhorii 2 that the third part of this film will also bring makers. You can celebrate your weekend with this film, because for two hours you will be somewhere in suspense as to what will happen next. He does not get any logical expression. As if the powers that come in the witness at the end are found. In the end, the scope for “Chhorii 3” is left. But this film has disappointed the audience as much. It was a waste of time to see it. You can watch “Chhorii 2” on Amazon Prime video.
Chhorii 2 Review: The Last Words
If you are fond of horror films then this is the best for you. This film not only shows scary things or the fear of ghosts but also tells about the impact of conservative thinking on society. Overall, this film shows that section of the society that is still sacrificing daughters and torturing women in the greed of having a son. There is not a single scene in the film which will bore you, from beginning to end, the interesting story of the film will keep you glued to the screen. If we talk about the direction, cinematography, storyline, and screenplay of the film, everything is awesome. Talking about the acting of the film’s starcast, Soha Ali Khan has made a strong comeback in the movie. She captured her character very well and also used body language and language as a maid equally well. Nushrratt Bharuccha also seemed to do justice to her character, but she missed one or two places. For example, in the well scene, when a spirit enters her, it does not seem so from her body language, nor does her voice look scary. Gashmeer Mahajani is also a part of the entire film; his character is very simple, and he has played it well. Overall, you can definitely watch this film by going to Amazon Prime Video.
