There should be a school of young boys and girls in the beautiful hill valleys, they may have drug pills swinging to loud music, some moody-freak-suspicious looking characters, murders come out one after the other and then who knows who the suspects are. There is someone in me with red-eyed-pointed horns that comes out in the dark. In such a situation, the whole spice for any suspense thriller gets ready automatically. Director Ashish R. Shukla’s candy has it all. Candy, an eight-episode web series on Voot Select, picks up pace from the beginning and keeps the viewer engrossed in suspense till the end. If you are a fan of such content, which in a matter of minutes leads to murder along with the question of who is the killer, then you will have big juice in candy.

Candy Series Review: What’s The Story About

In the opening minutes of the series, the body of Mehul Awasthi, a student of Rudra Valley School in Rudra Kund, is found hanging on a tree in the forest. There is commotion everywhere. DSP Ratna Sankhwar (Richa Chadha) conducts an official investigation and teacher Jayant Parikh (Ronit Roy) gathers evidence in his own style. The matter gets complicated when it comes to the fore that Mehul was not murdered by any person but by the ugly-giant-mysterious demon, Masan, who lives in the forest. Masaan has come back after years. Now how many more will he kill? The old tales of Masaan also open that when he killed whom he killed. Which girls were raped? A special mark becomes on the neck of the girls who have been victims of Masaan. In today’s world, can it be believed to be a mysterious creature like Masan? With Mehul’s death, it also comes to the fore that Vayu (Nakul Roshan Sahdev), son of Rudrakund MLA Ranaut (Manu Rishi Chadha), is feeding his candy factory intoxicants to school children. He runs a club wearing a rabbit mask. The air is bad. Is he a masan?

There are other characters here. Kalki Rawat (Rawat) went to the forest with Mehul and barely escaped Masaan, Sanjay, Imran, John, the three boys who ragged Mehul badly. Kalki’s gardener father, school principal, school counselor, MLA Ranaut and some of his men. There are many stories of ghosts and ghosts in the mountains. How much is the truth, no one knows. Candy moves at a slow pace from beginning to end but the last two episodes give a roller coaster-like fun. Keeping the characters in front, the needle of doubt trembles from right and left. When it seems that the secret of Masaan is revealed that only then comes a new twist. Rudrakund becomes the pool of death. Candy’s sole aim is to keep the audience in suspense and it is successful in that.

You will get to see a lot of different and great in this series. The special thing about the story is that each character has its own story. Like on one hand, where Jayant tries to solve this mystery, then the problems of his personal life also come to the fore. Apart from this, the rest of the characters also have their own secrets. Which opens up as the story progresses. Along with this, there are many such small dialogues in the series, which are very good and strike directly on the heart and mind. It is usually seen that either the opening story of the web series is very funny or its ending. However, both these things are present in Candy. The entire series moves at its own pace and the suspense of the ending makes your experience even better. The special thing about the series is that another suspense is also seen in its suspense.

Candy Series Review: Star Performances

All the major characters are written more or less properly. Although Richa Chadha, who became DSP, is mostly in uniform and the graph of her tragic personal story does not go too high, otherwise she could have been more attractive. She has looked very good in some scenes and her performance was good, but at some places the director has just kept her like that. Ronit Roy is good looking and he has played the role according to the character. Manu Rishi Chaddha is mostly ordinary but leaves an impact in the last two episodes. He looks less fit in the character and more absorbed. Gopal Dutt Tiwari, Riddhi Kumar, Nakul Roshan Sahdev have done justice to their respective roles. Nakul has previously appeared in Gully Boy and Paglat and is remembered here. Riddhi Kumar is from Maharashtra but is currently a well-known name of Tamil-Tegulu films. This is his first major work in Hindi. At the point where Candy ends, the doors of its Season 2 are open. When the second season comes, it is decided according to the story that Riddhi will lead it.

Everyone has acted very well in the series. Ronit Roy has done amazing performance with his gestures as well as his eyes. Ronit has once again proved that he is a great actor. At the same time, Richa Chadha has also done justice to her character. Apart from this, the work of Gopal Dutt Tiwari, Nakul Roshan Sahdev and Manu Rishi Chadha in the web series is also good. The special thing is that among the many veteran actors of the series, actress Riddhi Kumar also did not fade from anywhere and won hearts. Candy’s writing is of Bollywood style. Writers Advance Joshi and Devjit Das Purkayastha do not try to do anything new according to the new age. There is no variety in his scenes written on all the characters. Director Ashish R. Shukla has earlier given web series like Unseen (2020) and films like Prague (2013) and Bahut Hua Samman (2020). Movies are more interesting. Although in Candy, he maintains a grip from beginning to end.
