What Kind of Creature is the Octopus?
The interesting thing about this ending is that, during the conversation between Carl and the alien octopus, the creature mentions that his species has been living among people for years. This means that it is likely that in this universe the Earth is full of these bugs. They could have infiltrated society, integrating into towns and cities and living normally as they search for their next victim.
