With two chapters to go, the series follows a remarkable path that has brought together the past with the present, and with several mysteries for the future of Saul Goodman. But one of the characters that most worries fans are Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), who a couple of weeks ago revealed details of why she does not appear in the Breaking Bad series, a kind of sequel to Better Call Saul.

Better Call Saul Season 6: Episode 11 Ending Explained

Attention! Below are spoilers for the latest chapters of Better Call Saul. If you haven’t seen them, don’t read on.

Already with the end of the story of Jimmy McGill and his separation from Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), we had a temporary jump to when he is already completely Saul Goodman and is about to meet Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman). But before that, we got another time jump to see Gene, Saul’s new identity after the events of Breaking Bad.

Here we have seen, after the small glimpses in the previous seasons in which we learned that he is a worker in a store in a mall, that Gene misses being Goodman and is associated with two guys to con people again. But this has an explanation, and that is that there is a key moment in chapter 11 called Breaking Bad in which we understand why Gene returns to his adventures. He initially has a call with Francesca, her former secretary, and tells her that Kim Wexler called her and asked how Saul was doing.

This causes the lawyer to call the place where Kim works and have a conversation – it is hinted with her – but the one we can’t hear and it looks like a fight. This is the turning point of the protagonist as he seeks to leave Gene’s quiet life and goes back to scamming people for money with his elaborate schemes. The question is, why does Gene want to go back to being Saul? Although it could be for the money, the same director of the chapter Tom Schnauz explains it in an interview with AMC:

“Money is secondary to this thing. He probably thinks the game is about making money, but he’s doing it because he’s in pain that he needs to numb and Gene isn’t doing it. And he tried again. In episode 10, he resolved his Jeff problem doing this scam with these guys and it probably gave him a jolt of energy, that familiar feeling of what it’s like to take that drug. It’s exciting and it feels good, and he’s been cold turkey for a long time, and he tried it again. I think, after the phone call to Kim’s workplace, he needed to get back on that drug and so he does. He does it in a big way. He becomes completely addicted. He feels much better doing what he does.”

In the chapter, we also see the parallel of when he meets Walter and Jesse, and despite the danger shown by associating with them, he decides to advise the one who would be Heisenberg. Despite Mike’s (Jonathan Banks) warning, Saul still approaches Walter, which is shown as a parallel to Gene going in to steal from a man with cancer despite how dangerous it is.

The chapter shows that in both moments the protagonist puts himself in danger by doing something illegal with a man with cancer, predicting that Saul Goodman and Gene could have a similar end in both stories, considering that the former had his end in Breaking Bad and He had to leave his life behind.

Another of the great moments of the episode is when a parallel is made at the moment in which Saul meets Walter and Jesse and we jump into Gene’s life. Fans noticed that for a moment in a scene transition we see Gene lying in his house at the same time we see a grave, the one they made in Breaking Bad Jesse, and Walter to scare him.

What is The Future of Kim Wexler?

We already knew that Kim does not appear in Breaking Bad basically because she separated from Saul Goodman, after Howard’s death affected her and how dangerous they were both together. But when they had that discussion, we had a time jump to when Jimmy was fully Saul and then we got to know more of Gene’s story. For the same reason, fans were left wanting to know more about Kim, and what happened to her after separating from Saul. And in the last episode, we heard about her again.

In a call that Saul has with Francesca, his former assistant and whom he contacted several months after the end of Breaking Bad in which Goodman had to escape and take on a new identity, that of Gene Kim is mentioned. Francesca tells her that Kim called her to check on her, and also asked her if Saul was alive. This impacted the protagonist, who after thinking about it, decided to call his ex-wife.

Here we can learn some details of what Wexler was doing throughout Breaking Bad, and that is that Saul calls Titusville, Florida; to a company called Palm Coast Sprinklers. There he asks for Kim Wexler who works there. Of course, after this, we don’t see what they’re talking about, and only from a distance is Saul arguing with someone on the phone.

With this, we learn that Kim is still away from the law and works in a sprinkler business in Florida. Of course, we do not know more details except for this fight with Saul, which causes him to break the rules again and put himself at risk, as explained by the director of the chapter. There are only two chapters left for the end of the series, to be released on Tuesdays in Latin America on Netflix, and we will learn more about this discussion between Kim and Saul, and if the character of Rhea Seehorn will have another appearance.
