Berlin, the spin-off of Money Heist, will be available on Netflix from 29 December 2023. It is a Spanish TV series with Pedro Alonso that is highly anticipated by fans of the first show. The protagonist is Berlin, whose real full name is Andrés de Fonollosa. The new series delves into the past of the Professor’s mysterious and beloved brother. It is, in fact, a prequel, which tells what happened in the past in the life of Berlin, even before the events related to Money Heist. In particular, this time Andrés is in Paris with a gang ready to carry out a major robbery worth 44 million euros.
Money Heist was an unprecedented phenomenon, a red tide with a Dalí mask that swept the world as soon as it arrived in the Netflix catalog. Two years after saying goodbye to him, the streaming giant premieres Berlin, the prequel series that follows the golden era of Pedro Alonso’s thief. Despite being an expansion of the Money Heist universe, Berlin moves away from its predecessor, turning it into a much brighter and more playful comedy of love and robberies. The protagonist moves to Paris with his new gang, made up of Michelle Jenner, Tristán Ulloa, Begoña Vargas, Julio Peña Fernández, and Joel Sánchez, to steal some jewels from European royalty at the auction house run by François Polignac.
Berlin Season 1 Ending Explained: The Story Plot
At the center of the plot of the Berlin prequel to Money Heist is not only robbery but also love. After getting over his third divorce, Andrés is on the verge of giving up on love. Everything, however, changes when he sets his eyes on Camille. After stealing Mr. Antonio Vals’ 4th-century chalice, pretending to be a policeman, Berlin proceeds with his real plan. Andrés is proud of his gang, made up of Keila, Roi, Damien, Bruce, and Cameron. The team convinces Father Toureaux that they are a group of excavators who strongly believe that an ancient French church is located beneath the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Pres. This allows Berlin and his gang to proceed with the excavation.
Through the catacombs, they thus have access to the city of Paris. Meanwhile, Berlin has strategically booked hotel rooms to keep an eye on Monsieur Polignac, the director of the auction house. The gang enters the house and inserts various cameras. Through these, Berlin is fascinated when he sees Camille. He follows her to the local bar, where he witnesses her performance and falls in love with her. Just like the jewels, Berlin now also intends to steal the director’s wife.
Relationships Born in the TV Series?
Meanwhile, Damien receives a call from his wife asking for a divorce after 20 years of marriage. The man wonders what could have gone wrong. Instead, Keila gets closer to Bruce and she never thought she would be attracted to a man like him. Meanwhile, Roi falls in love with Cameron. Sometimes romantic complications get in the way during the robbery. Berlin dreams of having a real relationship with Camille, hoping to see her leave Polignac to be with him. When the latter learns of their history he decides to confront him. At this point, taking revenge on Polignac becomes a priority for Berlin. He is convinced that by putting him in prison, Camille would have left their marriage behind.
The Gang Puts Their Plan Into Action?
The Berlin gang has 15 hours to execute the plan. The time finally arrives to steal the jewels, but when everything seems to be going according to plan, it turns out that the relationship between Berlin and Damien is no longer the same. Damien despises Berlin for her relationship with a married woman. Andrés defends himself from the accusations, pointing out the great love he has for Camille. But Damien believes it’s pointless to chase a woman with a false identity, among other things. The argument gets louder and louder, to the point that Polignac hears a noise from outside the vault. The man asks the guard on duty to take a look. Luckily the gang has an advantage, as Polignac receives an important call and so doesn’t ask the guard to look in the main vault.
At this point in the Berlin TV series on Netflix, the team tries to clean up the tracks and takes the jewels to the hotel room. Problems arise after the robbery. Kelia and Bruce find themselves faced with a big problem when they enter a bike rental shop to remove their ID from the system. The security guard becomes suspicious and has a confrontation with them. Unexpectedly, Kelia saves the situation and finds the courage to point a gun at the guard and her colleagues. So Kelia and Bruce manage to escape the scene. But Kelia isn’t proud of what she’s becoming and she’s afraid that by being with Bruce the troubles in her life will increase. The turning point comes when Cameron accompanies Roi in an illegal streetcar competition. Cameron takes a jewel with him, which he then leaves inside the car at the end, which is given to the winner as a prize.
Berlin is Left by Camille? Trouble Ahead?
Berlin‘s plan was initially a failure. The cunning thief disguises himself as Polignac, after having drugged the latter with chloroform. He leaves evidence of the jewels stolen in the man’s car. Thus the first suspect in the robbery becomes Polignac himself, who is arrested at his home. But Berlin realizes it has made a big mistake. Camille was ready to leave her husband to be with him. However, when Polignac is arrested, she decides not to separate from him and to support him. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang leaves the hotel. Berlin is supposed to leave after cleaning out the hotel room, but things don’t go as planned. Andrés decides to stay behind and support Camille. When the police encounter Roi, Cameron, and Damien, who pretend to be a family mourning their mother’s death, she becomes suspicious. Through the urn, Cameron manages to divert the police’s attention from the cans containing the stolen jewels. However, they realize that it is impossible to cross borders at this time. So, they decided to stay there for a few days.
Camille Discovers Everything, Can the Gang Save Themselves?
When Damien discovers that Berlin is still in the hotel, he decides to help him escape. Meanwhile, however, the police realize that Roi and Cameron are exchanging romantic glances and that, therefore, the story of the family grieving over their mother’s loss is a lie. Roi and Cameron must therefore escape. They go through the underground tunnel and jump into a truck, which is waiting for them outside. The two thieves manage to deceive the police, but Keila is bitten by a snake. So, she and Bruce find themselves in a confusing situation. The policemen who help them reach the hospital find the bullets they have with them. Bruce reacts quickly and holds the agents in check.
When Keila is released, Bruce handcuffs the cops onto a boat and sets out with her to cross the border. Meanwhile, Berlin is destroyed when Camille leaves him. Damien notices the sadness in his eyes and decides to stay at the hotel for a couple of drinks. But Camille begins to suspect that Berlin is getting her husband into trouble. Therefore, as she greets him, she steals her keys to her room and when she opens it, she finds everything that is needed to prove that the one in her mind is a criminal. Damien finds out what happened and realizes they’re in trouble. Meanwhile, both the Spanish and French police realize that the criminals have planned a robbery. Before the officers can access the surveillance footage, Keila hacks into the system and deletes everything. Berlin and Damien are eventually revealed to make their way into the mountains and leave France, managing to fool the police. Thus, the entire gang manages to escape, after having pulled off the great robbery!

Berlin Season 1 Unanswered Questions?
Berlin has said goodbye by closing the robbery at the Parisian auction house but leaving the doors wide open to a second season, still unconfirmed by Netflix. Berlin is prepared to undertake a new robbery with Damián and, presumably, the rest of the gang. After all, he explains in the first episode that, of the three bands he has had, this is the one he loves the most since it belongs to his golden years. In this way, it is most likely that he carried out several assaults with them. On the other hand, we have the plot that follows Sierra and Murillo. The police are unable to catch the protagonists and the only thing they have are robot portraits of witnesses. However, Alicia warns in her last appearance: “They may have won this battle, but they will steal again, and we will be there, waiting”.
And we hope it’s true. Another story that remains unfinished is the one related to Camille and that final note that Berlin hides in the money he gives her, with a promise to meet again in Singapore. Creators Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato have expressed their desire to delve into the numerous relationships Berlin has had, but her affair with Camille could continue in the future. Thus, Berlin is a fiction with potential for several seasons, a bet that could travel to other cities in the world for more illusionist heists devised by Alonso’s thief and his favorite allies, a prequel to continue exploring the love history of the protagonist and the love affairs between the band only confirmation from Netflix remains.
