Beau Is Afraid: Joaquin Phoenix in 4 Different Versions In The New Poster Of The Film By Ari Aster
Joaquin Phoenix is the protagonist of the new Beau Is Afraid poster in 4 different “versions” that show him in as many different ages over the decades. The film, the latest from Hereditary and Midsommar director Ari Aster, hits theaters next April and is described as a surrealist horror set in an alternate version of the present. Beau Is Afraid was originally going to be called Disappointment Blvd and in this new film, Aster carries on what is now a real tradition, as well as its codified narrative place. The starting point, the cue from which the story takes shape is, once again, the confrontation with pain and with the need to process it. Here we will follow the story of Beau, the character entrusted to Joaquin Phoenix, who returns home after the death of his mother to find himself faced with a bizarre supernatural force, the effects of which could last for decades…
Here’s the New Beau Is Afraid Poster
A24 has recently released, via Twitter, the new Beau Is Afraid poster, which you can see at the bottom of our article. In the previous one, we only got to see the young version of Joaquin Phoenix’s character, while now we also see him in the aged ones as the years go by. Next to the Oscar-winning actor for Joker, stars Nathan Lane, Patty LuPone, Amy Ryan, Parker Posey, Michael Gandolfini, Richard Kind and Armen Nahapetian as young Beau. Ari Aster, also the author of the screenplay, had spoken of his latest effort as a real nightmare lasting 4 hours. Whether this is actually the length of the film is not known, but along with the new poster also came to the news that the trailer for Beau Is Afraid will be released next Tuesday, January 10th.
It appears that the upcoming film has taken some inspiration from Aster’s 2011 short Beau, and thus could provide some clues to the plot. The short follows the late Billy Mayo (Criminal Minds) as a neurotic man whose visit to his mother’s home is delayed by an increasingly sinister series of events. With Phoenix in the lead role, audiences can totally expect a tour de force from the Academy Award-winning actor in Beau Is Afraid. In addition to Phoenix and Nahapetian, the cast of Beau Is Afraid also includes Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers, Parker Posey, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Denis Ménochet, Hayley Squires, Zoe Lister-Jones, Richard Kind and Michael Gandolfini of Many Saints of Newark.
