Avatar: The Last Airbender: Netflix Renews the Series for Two More Seasons
Netflix has announced the renewal of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the live-action adaptation of the hit Nickelodeon series, so that its story is expanded into seasons two and three. Likewise, the series will conclude with its third part, following the same narrative structure as the original animated version. The news came as a surprise to the cast members, who received the news with a joke from actor Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Fire Lord Ozai in this version created by Albert Kim. The adaptation had experienced a loss of viewers that predicted a possible cancellation (in four days it dropped more than 6% in the audience), so the decision represents a vote of confidence on the part of the red “N”. In such a way, fans will be able to continue seeing Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio), and Sokka (Ian Ousley), as well as Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) and General Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) in their adventures.
What is Avatar: The Last Airbender About?
The on-screen adventure is set in a fictional world divided into four nations representing the elements of water, earth, fire, and air. These factions once coexisted in harmony under the watchful eye of the Avatar, master of the four elements and keeper of the peace. However, the harmony is broken when the Fire Nation launches a campaign of conquest better known as the Hundred Year War. The series follows Aang, the last avatar and sole survivor of the Air Nomads, on his mission to end the conflict and restore world peace. Accompanied by Sokka, Katara, and a host of allies who join him on his journey, Aang must face not only external enemies but also the internal challenges of growing up and accepting his destiny. Critics did not very favor this live-action adaptation, but the audience favored it. In this way, with its renewal confirmed, the responsibility of carrying out this ambitious project falls on Albert Kim, who leads the team as showrunner.
The Ending of Season 1 Explained?
In the season 1 finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix, the action focuses on the Northern Water Tribe’s defense against an attack by a Fire Nation fleet, led by Admiral Zhao. Thus, Aang, Katara, and Sokka, after a long journey, join the tribe to develop a defense plan. During the battle, Katara’s efforts to advance her mastery of water and the relationship between Sokka and Princess Yue, who has a unique connection to the moon spirit due to a supernatural event in her childhood, stand out.
The climax of the season occurs when Zhao executes his plan to attack the spirits of the moon and the ocean, fundamental to the power of the water masters, killing the spirit of the moon and causing destabilization in the natural powers. In an act of sacrifice, Aang fuses with the spirit of the ocean, creating a powerful being capable of defeating the enemy fleet. For her part, Yue sacrifices her life to restore the spirit of the moon, leaving emotional context for the survivors that sets the stage for the challenges of the next season.
