Atrangi Re Review: Trio Akshay-Sara-Dhanush Did Wonders Satrangi Story Of The Anand L Rais’s Film Is Fantastic

You can celebrate Christmas holidays with this film released on Disney+ Hotstar. May you welcome the coming year. After a long time, such a film is in front of you which entertains without any agenda. The work of the entire team with the film’s writer Himanshu Sharma and director Aanand L Rai is commendable. First of all there is a story in this film. That basic thing, with which you either go to the cinema halls or turn on the screen. Atrangi Re brings to you a story that has romance, emotion and drama too. Everything, as can be seen with family. 

Atrangi Re Review: The Story Plot 

Rinku Sooryavanshi (Sara Ali Khan) is a quick, daring, fierce yet sensitive girl. Whose marriage is forcefully married to V Venkatesh Vishwanath Iyer alias Vishu (Dhanush), a senior medical student from Tamil Nadu at the behest of his maternal grandmother (Seema Biswas). Rinku is madly in love with a magician Sajjad Ali Khan (Akshay Kumar). So crazy that she has been running away from home since the age of 14. But every time the family members catch him and bring him back. Now this love triangle goes through an unexpected turn, this is the story. 

The film begins with village in Bihar, where Rinku runs away from home. Some people are chasing him and then catch him and bring him home. Rinku is neither afraid of the abuses of the family, nor of beatings. No one knows for which boy she runs away from home. Enraged by his misbehavior, his grandmother orders everyone to capture any boy and get him married. Vishu, who is about to get engaged to his girlfriend in a few days, falls in the grip of this forced marriage. While Vishu slowly falls in love with Rinku, Rinku narrates her passionate love story of herself and her magician lover Sajjad. His planning is simple. Vishu on his way and Rinku on his way after reaching Delhi. But this relationship is not going to end so soon. How Rinku, Vishu and Sajjad influence each other’s lives and what ends their relationship That’s what makes this story ‘Atrangi’. 

And, Sara Ali Khan is the centerpiece of this entire action, emotion and drama. The film is actually of Sara Ali Khan. Dhanush and Akshay Kumar have a package deal with him. Sara’s previous film ‘Love Aaj Kal’ was also a super flop. The score card rests on his two flops after delivering two successful films and ‘Atrangi Re’ has saved his career by coming at the right time. This film is a big lesson for him as well. Acting should be such that it should not resemble acting on screen. Sara has learned this by coming in the fifth film of her career. She is yet to have some polish and being the daughter of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, she also has her chances. Dhanush is the life of the film. People also saw the film in their greed. He is the most amazing artist of the whole story. He has given the courage to crores to see the story of an ordinary person happening on screen. Akshay Kumar movie yatra. Trying to be everywhere and everywhere and sometimes overacting too. But, everything is going well now. So the matter is settled. 

Atrangi Re Review and Analysis  

Atrangi Re is full of romance, emotion and drama. Aanand L Rai has maintained the grandeur of cinema here. Camera work and editing are good. After the failure of Zero, Rai is here again in the old rhythm. The same thing can be said about the writings of Himanshu Rai. He has put an interesting twist in the story, which humanizes the film by elevating it from romance and drama. 

It is certainly that he has given priority to the mind over the heart of the hero. Especially in the last part. Otherwise, watching the middle part of Atrangi Re reminds you of Kamal Haasan-Sridevi’s classic film Sadma for a long time. Compassion like that movie is missing here. Compassion is the highest human value. It is at this point that Atrangi Re is left behind by director Balu Mahendra’s shock in 1983. As long as you think about the slightly harsh looking hero, Atrangi Re moves on and you don’t want to spoil the fun either. Akshay’s character as Sajjad and Rinku’s love for him is the thread in which this film looks like pearls. Sajjad and Rinku are remembered by the audience amidst the story of Vishnu and Rinku. You can be happy that 2021 can be bid farewell to memories of a good film. 

Direction and Technical Aspects  

This time Aanand L Rai has come up with a sensitive subject with a love story. He talks about mental health and tries to touch the heart through emotions. The director has also been successful to some extent in conveying his point without giving heavy knowledge. The story becomes very slow at some places, which distracts your attention. Especially in the second half, the scenes get repetitive, some parts get quite boring. But the characters as well as the locations and dialogues connect you back to the story in the climax. However, the subject matter of the film is so complex that it is not easy to bring it to the big screen. 

The story, screenplay and dialogues of the film have been written by Himanshu Sharma. The best thing about the story is that it does not talk much about mental health on the surface, rather it is threaded into the story. Although the script had been a bit tighter, the film could have been more effective. Detailing is lacking in many places. The story of the film revolves around Siwan (Bihar), Agra, Delhi and Chennai. Nitin Jihani Choudhary’s production design is superb. 

Apart from the music, two things in the film are worth noting. One is its production design and the other is its costume. Both these departments have helped immensely in feeding the film ‘Atrangi Re’ on screen. Pankaj Kumar’s cinematography lends respect to the soul of the film. Hemal Kothari has justified the decision of releasing the film on digital by keeping the duration of the film two hours and 18 minutes. Sitting at home, you have to watch the film ‘Atrangi Re’ first or go to the cinema halls, ’83’, you have to decide for yourself because for ‘Atrangi Re’, a small screen will also run in the form of a film, but ’83’ is 100% big screen It’s cinema. 

Star Performances  

Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush share an interesting chemistry. But it would not be wrong to say that Dhanush is the life of the film. Helplessness, love, pain, anger. From the first frame to the end, Dhanush has been seen in his character. Rinku has apparently been one of the most challenging characters for Sara Ali Khan till date. His efforts are visible on screen. Sara is splendid in some emotional scenes. But the actress has a lot of work to do on the dialogue delivery. Akshay Kumar fills an important suspense in the story. He is quite natural in his character. 

The Last Words  

Atrangi Re will take you on an emotional journey that is quite different. Such stories are rarely made in Bollywood. Also, this film is a must watch for Dhanush’s tremendous performance. Atrangi Re has another strong side which is most important – the costume. The stars are wearing costumes, they work to feed this film on the screen. The set designer and production team are to be commended. The story has a temper from love jihad to honor killing. Overall this film is a must watch.
