Cassian Andor first appeared in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The character serves as a spy for the Rebellion against the Empire and takes charge of freeing Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), who sets him on the path to “finding” his father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), one of the minds behind the Death Star.
However, Andor takes place five years before the events of Rogue One and will explore Diego Luna’s character’s life before and during his entry into the organization. Andor’s dark tone and the very nature of the character anticipate a series that breaks with the Star Wars dynamic. Cassian Andor is one of those characters who proved in Star Wars that not everyone in the Rebel Alliance responds to the cliché of the knight in shining armor.
