Agatha All Along: First Trailer of the Wandavision Spinoff, Agatha Prepares for the Redemption

Marvel has released the first trailer for Agatha All Along, the sequel-spinoff series of WandaVision, the first MCU television series starring Wanda Maximoff; the miniseries, which brings back Kathrin Hahn as the witch Agatha Harkness, was written by Jac Schaeffer and reintroduces some characters introduced in WandaVision, such as Patti LuPone and Debra Jo Rupp. The extended trailer takes us back to Westview, the charming town where Wanda lived her idyll with Vision, due to a curse created by Agatha herself in an attempt to take away her powers. Could Agatha All Along be one of the best MCU shows? First of all, this new series is based on WandaVision, which is one of Marvel’s best so far, it also has a great actress who has proven to be an unstoppable force in comedy, and it has a darker, yet still comedic, tone than some of the other shows that are already part of this universe.

Agatha All Along focuses on the character of Agatha Harkness, who we saw messing with Wanda Maximoff’s mind as the two found themselves trapped in the parallel reality she created after the events of End Game and losing Vision. Agatha poses as an innocent neighbor but turns out to be a dark and powerful witch, who wants to steal Wanda’s chaos magic and use it for her own benefit, but things don’t go as she expected, Wanda (played by Elizabeth Olsen) discovers her and ends up unleashing all her power against her, and then leaving her trapped in that same reality and unable to use her powers. This series is the continuation of that story, where we will also discover more about this character, his motivations, and what he does to try to escape.

Agatha All Along: Story Plot and Trailer

We also have a synopsis for Agatha All Along that gives us a taste of what to expect from the show: “In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out after an unsuspecting goth boy helps her break free from a twisted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to accompany him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a series of magical tests that, if passed, rewards a witch with what she lacks. Together, Agatha and this mysterious teenager assemble a desperate coven and set off down, down, down the Road…“.

We also have a few character names, including Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), Ali Ahn (Alice Wu-Gulliver), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Mrs. Hart/Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp), and… Kid (Joe Locke). It looks like Locke’s character is being referred to as “Kid” for now, suggesting that Marvel Studios intends to keep the fact that he’ll be playing Billy Maximoff/Wiccan, the son of Scarlet Witch, under wraps.

What they have in common is that they are witches without a coven”, Schaeffer previously said of the protagonists of Agatha All Along. “Witches are defined by deceit, betrayal, evil, and selfishness. What do you do when you have a group of witches who demonstrate those notions and you need them to work together?

Whereas WandaVision played with the form of classic TV sitcoms, here we play a lot with the premise of witches,” she continued. “Like, how are witches portrayed in the public imagination? We certainly didn’t want a one-dimensional, evil witch. There will be moments where we see the true heart of Agatha“.

Now Agatha, defeated and deprived of any supernatural power, takes on the role of a police detective intent on solving a murder case until her colleague makes her understand that what she is experiencing is nothing more than an illusion created by Wanda, to imprison her in a fictitious world. At that point, Agatha decides to take back everything that once belonged to her and to try to return to being what she was, she decides to form a real coven of witches, of which she herself will be the reference. Her feat, of course, is viewed by all the inhabitants of Westview, with much skepticism… Along with the trailer, the first official poster of the series was also released, which bears the tagline: “Revenge is for witches”.

The series will debut with a double episode on Disney+ on September 18, 2024, and will then continue broadcasting with an episode on a weekly basis; in the short animated teaser announcing the release date, all the provisional titles that the miniseries has had during its long and troubled production were summarized, from Agatha: The Darkhold Diaries’, through Agatha: House Of Harkness, and again Agatha: Coven Of Chaos, to then arrive at the current name. WandaVision, directed in part by Matt Shakman, now at the helm of Fantastic Four, has collected 23 Emmy nominations, winning, among others, the award for Best Song, precisely for “Agatha All Along” which now gives the title to the sequel, in whose cast, in addition to Hahn, we also find Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, and Ali Ahn.

Does Mephisto Appear in the Trailer?

In addition, in the trailer, there is a moment where we can see a red, demonic, and almost skeletal figure. That figure makes us think of Mephisto, a famous Marvel villain who masters black magic and who is mentioned in WandaVision, although he never appeared in the series. It is not known if it is that character, but it certainly has a very similar image.

Who is Agatha All Along?

Agatha Harkness made her debut in WandaVision first as a gossipy neighbor who for some reason was always there for Wanda, but little by little she revealed her true identity. Agatha was no ordinary neighbor, but a powerful witch from Salem (where she was accused by her own coven of practicing black magic) who tried to steal Wanda’s powers and use her pain to make her explode. In the comics, she tries to join Sinister Six and is the mother of a character named Nicholas Scratch, who is an enemy of Fantastic 4.

When is Agatha All Along Released?

The series will arrive on Disney+ on September 18. For now, we don’t know if it will be a limited series, like WandaVision, or if it could have multiple seasons.
