A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Everything About the New Game of Thrones Spin-Off

With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the adaptations of the universe inspired by George RR Martin‘s novels continue to expand. Although it was in 2011 when Game of Thrones showed us the universe created by the American novelist for the first time on screen, House of the Dragon, the series released as a prequel in 2022 showed that we can still expect more similar bets for the future and there is no better proof of this than the confirmation of a new installment that will continue the legacy. To understand more about how the timeline works in the list of installments that have reached the Max catalog so far, it is necessary to understand the chronology of the events and the characters that form them to put the pieces together and delve deeper into the history of Westeros, this bet promises to come with answers that will provide more clarity and make it one of the best series on the calendar.

According to Variety, actors from The Crown, Sex Education, Fargo, and True Detective have joined the cast of the series, which will have six episodes in its first season, following the story of a knight who travels around the kingdom with his squire. This story takes place about 100 years before what happens in Game of Thrones, which means it is placed right in the middle, between the original series and House of the Dragon, which is the prequel, with Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, where the story of the Targaryens and the civil war that destroyed the dynasty and led to other powerful families taking over the Iron Throne is told. House of the Dragon is already one of HBO’s most successful series and the most watched on Max, so expectations are high for this spin-off already in development.

What is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms About?

The series is based on the story by George R.R. Martin and tells the story of the knight Duncan the Tall, whose journey leads him to cross paths with several Targaryens and a Baratheon ancestor. These Targaryens are descendants of Rhaenyra, Aegon, and company, but they never got to know them. The family still sits on the Iron Throne, but there are no more dragons (as a result of the war) and the kingdom is changing radically.

“Adapted from George R.R. Martin’s short novel “The Hedge Knight”, the first season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will follow the exploits of knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his young squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), roughly 100 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and 100 years after the events of “House of the Dragon.” Their journey will take them to a competition where they will encounter several members of the Targaryen dynasty, including Prince Aerion Targaryen (Bennett), Prince Baelor Targaryen (Carvel) and Prince Maekar Targaryen (Spruell), along with another knight known as the Laughing Storm, Ser Lyonel Baratheon (Ings), and a puppeteer named Tanselle (Crawford),” the Variety synopsis reads.

The Cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms?

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon did very well with the casting of the actors (Olivia Cooke is perfect as Alicent Hightower, the same with Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra, not to mention the younger versions of these characters). Variety revealed that the cast of this new series will include Finn Bennett (“True Detective: Night Country”), Bertie Carvel (“The Crown”), Tanzyn Crawford (“Tiny Beautiful Things”), Daniel Ings (“Sex Education”), and Sam Spruell (“Fargo”), and probably more actors who have not been revealed to avoid spoilers.

Peter Claffey

The Irish actor has previously appeared in films such as Vikings: Valhalla, Harry Wild, and Sisters Until Death. This time, he takes on the leading role of Dunk, a brave knight who could change the course of history.

Dexter Soll Ansell

At his young age, the actor has managed to take part in films such as The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Christmas on the Farm and Village of the Damned, and with a new role on his journey, he plays Egg, Dunk’s faithful squire.

In addition to appearing in True Detective and True Detective: Night Land, the British-born actor has also made his debut in series such as Domina. Now, he is in charge of playing Aerion Targaryen, with whom Dunk will have some differences along the way.

Sam Spruell

With a title in the nobility, Maekar Targaryen represented his house before the Seven Kingdoms, and although he is considered hostile by most, Dunk and Egg manage to see beyond the first impression. He is played by Sam Spruell.

Daniel Ings

Daniel Ings, the actor from The Knights and The Crown, returns to the screen as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, a knight who participated in the same tournament that brought Dunk to prominence.

What Book is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Based On?

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based on the novel of the same name by George RR Martin, part of the Tales of Dunk and Egg literary series, a set of three stories set a century before the events portrayed in Game of Thrones. Although this title has a different tone from the rest of the installments related to it, it is part of the same universe and shows more in-depth the consolidation of the kingdom’s power structure from a perspective that emerges from the format that follows the members of royalty to show life outside the castle.
