A Killer Paradox Ending Explained: Who Song Chon Really Is and What Happened to Lee Tang?

A Killer Paradox is available on Netflix from February 9, 2024. It is a compelling TV series, but also with a fairly convoluted plot. It is not the classic show of a common serial killer. The protagonist is an ordinary student, who finds himself involved in an obstacle course when an accidental murder causes another crime. The boy becomes a serial killer, and a cunning investigator is ready to do anything to capture him. Based on the webtoon of the same name by Naver, The Killer Paradox (Sarinja-ng-Nangam in its original) is a Korean Netflix series that tells the story of Lee Tang, an average college student who, after killing a serial killer in self-defense, believes he can identify evil people and dedicates himself to eliminating them.

The thriller directed by Lee Chang-hee and written by Kim Da-min begins with Lee Tang dealing with a difficult customer at the convenience store where he works part-time. Later, on the way to his house, she finds the same man on the ground, while his companion walks away. When he tries to intervene, he is attacked mercilessly. The protagonist of A Killer Paradox uses the hammer he borrowed from his boss to defend himself and murder his attacker. Before he can leave the crime scene, he passes a woman walking her dog, but she is blind, so Lee Tang remains silent until she gets away from her. The next day he receives a visit from Officer Jang Nan-gam who asks him some questions, but the case is solved before the police officer can confirm his suspicions.

A Killer Paradox: The Story Plot

Lee Tang (Choi Woo-shik) is an indolent college student with no prospects, deeply bored by a life that never seems to have anything interesting in store for him. In order not to burden the already miserable family economy, he lives alone in a squalid apartment which he maintains through a part-time job at a convenience store in the city. And it is precisely here, one evening, that his very monotonous existence takes an unexpected turn: after having left the night shift he runs into a customer he met a few hours earlier in the shop who, drunk, starts putting his hands on him. Mindful of the many years of harassment suffered by high school bullies, Tang reacts instinctively, taking a hammer from his bag that he had borrowed from the convenience store to hang a painting in his house.

The man falls to the ground, dead, and the boy, returning to his apartment, waits for justice to fall inexorably upon him. This, however, does not happen only, due to a series of fortunate circumstances, there is no evidence against him but it even emerges that the man he murdered was in reality a multiple murderer under a false identity. The matter would seem to be over until an inconvenient witness comes to light, dragging Tang into a spiral of brutal murders. With two constants: her shameless misfortune in never being placed at the crime scene and the fact that all those whose lives she took were, without her knowledge, dangerous criminals. Tang thus begins to think of himself as a sort of avenger with special abilities but Detective Jang Nan-gam, who does not believe in do-it-yourself justice, is intent on finding out who is behind all these sudden deaths.

Although the authorities determine that both men murdered each other, Jang Nan-gam still suspects Lee Tang but finds no evidence against him because the hammer is not at the crime scene, and the young boss did not listen when they asked to borrow it. The tool and the store’s security cameras did not capture the student with the weapon. Guilt torments Lee Tang until it is revealed that the man he killed was named Yeo Bu-il and was a serial killer whom the police failed to catch. However, the problems do not end, since the murder weapon appears in the possession of Seon Yeo-ok, the only witness to her crime who is also not blind and asks her for money in exchange for her silence.

The protagonist of “The Killer Paradox” decides that his only option is to kill Seon Yeo-ok. The police find the body several days later but have no leads to follow because the woman’s dog licked everything. Additionally, it is revealed that she murdered her parents to keep the insurance money, so once again, luck seems to be on Lee Tang’s side. The weight of his actions begins to affect the student, who attempts suicide. After failing, he gets drunk and runs into Kang Jae-jun and Lee Jin-seong, two young men who try to rob him after stabbing Officer Chung-jin. Tang murders them and later discovers that they sexually abused the daughter of a man named Sang-muk, who planned to take revenge on the attackers, but not having the courage to do so, he witnessed Lee’s crime.

Sang-muk confesses to the murders, but Nan-gam doesn’t believe him. Meanwhile, Tang plans to turn himself into the authorities, but the evidence against him is stolen and he ends up in the hospital, where he meets Sang-muk, who commits suicide, but first assures him that OnlyForHeroes will help him. The enigmatic figure introduces himself as Roh Bin and offers him help in what he believes is his life’s mission. While Tang continues murdering evil people with Bin’s help, Nan-gam tracks down the student. To get rid of the detective, Bin makes moves to get himself suspended. However, another problem arises: Song Cho, Bin’s former partner turned evil.

What Happens to Lee and Jang?

We move on to the funeral of Jang’s father, while the latter is investigated by his superiors. A police statement said Roh-bin had worked closely with Song to kill all those people. But that wasn’t exactly the case for her, as they had already bonded before all this happened. But Roh-bin had decided to take the blame himself to help and protect Lee. When Jang’s superiors ask him about Lee’s whereabouts, we discover what happened in the factory. Jang takes the safety off the gun and pulls the trigger, but no bullet comes out. Lee kneels and cries, knowing that he will live. Jang is convinced, however, that sooner or later someone will capture him.

A fire breaks out in the factory, where any evidence of Lee’s involvement is destroyed. Roh-bin’s body is also burned by the flames, although Lee tries in every way to get him out. In the finale of A Killer Paradox, Lee flees to Thailand, where he begins working as a fisherman. He is found by the immigration police, who ask him why he is hiding in another country, given that in Korea he is a clean person. An agent confirms that Lee is innocent of all charges, as there is no evidence. At the end of A Killer Paradox, Jang finds himself in the company of the dog he had saved and hears the news of a man, who is called Kim and was a murderer, who has been killed. It seems, therefore, that Lee has gone back to doing what he was doing before.

Who Really is Song Chon and Why Did He Become a Murderer?

When Song Chon appears on the scene the police focus on him instead of Tang. Bin proposes to Nan-gam to join forces to catch him, but the detective refuses even though this man caused his father’s brain death and had an affair with his mother. Thanks to his skills he is reinstated and assigned to the case. Tang refuses to join Song Chun, so he becomes the assassin’s target. Although he manages to escape with Bin’s help, his rival has a book that incriminates him. Meanwhile, Nan-gam manages to catch his father’s attacker, but the dangerous man manages to escape. To corner him, the officer issues an arrest warrant and identifies Bin and Tang as his accomplices.

Song Chun finds out that Bin and Tang are planning to flee the country, so he threatens Bin, who decides to sacrifice himself and allow his partner to escape alone. However, Tang goes to meet him. Bin enlists Nan-gam’s help, who once again refuses, but changes his mind when the villain murders his father. During the fight, Nan-gam shoots Song Chun, who shoots Bin, and reveals the reason why he murdered Gap-su, the officer’s father. Song Chun dreamed of becoming a police officer, but he never passed the tests. Later, he discovered that the man he admired so much was corrupt and prevented him from becoming a detective. In revenge, he decided to kill him. Furthermore, he reveals that he was not his mother’s lover.

Does Lee Tang Get Arrested?

To prevent him from going down that path, Tang offers to kill Song Chun, but a final attack from the villain forces him to shoot Nan-gam. Just as he promised Bin, the detective releases Tang, who leaves the country after the fire disappears, the body of his friend, and the book that incriminates him. Nan-gam is suspended and the police believe that Bin is Song Chun’s accomplice, therefore the charges against Lee Tang are dropped. At the end of “The Killer Paradox” the protagonist is caught and deported to South Korea, where he discovers that he has no criminal record and is released. Shortly after, he runs into an evil man, who later turns up dead, which catches Nan-gam’s attention and suggests a second season.
