King Kong: Disney+ Announces Live-Action Series! The Origin of Kong Is Coming!

Deadline reports that Disney+ has officially begun the development of King Konglive-action series about the origin of King Kong, the popular movie monster starring in numerous films. The series will explore the origins of Kong and the mysteries of his home, Skull Island, and will be based on the original written by Merian C. Cooper, the director who conceived the gigantic primate, and on new novels by Joe DeVito, produced in conjunction with Cooper’s Legacy.

Stephany Folsom, who recently developed the Prime Video Paper Girls series, will write and executive produce the King Kong show. James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett will also executively produce on behalf of Atomic Monster, along with Danny Festa for World Builder Entertainment. Disney Branded Television will produce.

King Kong: The Origin of Kong Is Coming Disney+

The original King Kong film premiered in 1933 and became an instant hit. The character has been used in numerous films, the latest being under the banner of the Legendary-Warner Bros. which gave birth to a new cinematic universe known as the Monsterverse. These films include Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong. Among the upcoming works focusing on the world of the gorilla are the Netflix anime series Skull Island and the Apple live-action series with Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt, recently announced as protagonists. The latter series is centered around Godzilla and is connected to the Monsterverse movies, while the Disney+ show is a separate entity. Kong’s character is perhaps best known for Peter Jackson’s 2005 film (The Lord of the Rings) with a stellar cast of Adrien Brody, Jack Black and Naomi Watts.
