Pac-Man Film: Announced The Live-Action Film! Comes To Theaters In Live-Action

Pac-Man Film is moving to the big screen. As absurd as it may seem, the beloved 80s arcade game is about to be turned into a live-action movie. Former Jane the Virgin actor Justin Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, along with Bandai Namco Entertainment, are currently working on the project. While the cast, and many other details, are still a mystery, we know that the project – still without an official title – was written by Chuck Williams, producer of Paramount’s Sonic film who, unlike many failed adaptations, has demonstrated that video game nostalgia can become lucrative for cinema.

Pac-Man Comes To Theaters In Live-Action

This isn’t the first time Pac-Man has switched from one coin-operated game to another format. Two television series, one on ABC and one on Disney XD, have already brought the yellow chomper to the screen. This latest series, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures ran for two seasons from 2013 to 2016. Additionally, from 1982 to 1983, Hanna-Barbera’s Pac-Man was the first cartoon based on a video game. A live-action film, however, is quite a gamble, especially since the Pac-Man video game doesn’t have who knows what enthralling storyline behind it. There is no princess to save, there is no evil scientist to defeat, and there is only a round yellow face eating colored ghosts. Is Hollywood running out of ideas?

There have been several attempts to bring Pac-Man to the big screen, ever since the hit game was released in 1982. A live-action project dates back to at least 2008. Which shows just how far persistence and a franchise can go in billion-dollar video games. Will it be the right time?
