Crazy Rich Asians 2: Amy Wang Will Be The Screenwriter Of The Sequel

Amy Wang was chosen to replace the screenplay Adele Lim and Peter Chiarelli in Crazy Rich Asians 2. The duo has in fact given up on the project produced by Warner Bros and Color Force after some controversy, which took place in 2019, related to wage issues. Adele Lim had in fact given up the task of writing the screenplay for the two sequels announced by the show due to her salary, 10 times lower than that of Chiarelli. The producers had argued that the figure was linked to the different professional backgrounds of the two and Chu had defended Lim by arguing that she had been underestimated. The filmmaker and the Warner executives had tried to negotiate with the screenwriter who, however, had refused the offer to return to be involved in the project.

Plot details are still kept under wraps, but it makes sense that it will take some elements from Kwan’s second book, China Rich Girlfriend. By the end of the first chapter, Rachel and Nick had solved their problems and got engaged, so the sequel could very well start with their marriage. Yeoh’s Eleanor had somehow begun to support Rachel as her son’s girlfriend, but there may be other problems for the couple. Finally, a post-credits scene suggests Chan’s Astrid will find love with her ex Charlie Wu (Harry Shum Jr.).

Crazy Rich Asians 2 Release Date

The hiring of Wang doesn’t necessarily mean the sequel will have a smooth continuation, but it’s a positive sign that this film could at least begin pre-production. Jon M. Chu should be involved again in directing the second chapter of the story based on the novels written by Kevin Kwan. The protagonists of Crazy Rich Asians were Henry Golding, Constance Wu, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong and Michelle Yeoh. Amy Wang recently worked on From Scratch, starring Zoe Saldana, and as story editor for Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu’s Brothers Sun.
