Inventing Anna Ending Explained: The Sentence of Anna Delvey
The ending of Inventing Anna is entirely dedicated to the judicial sentence of the protagonist and to the repercussions on her and on the people around her. The girl is convicted on most of the fraud charges, but she is found innocent of both Rachel Williams’ allegations and the charges linked to the alleged City Bank scam.
For all the other charges Anna is found guilty and sentenced. Her sentence includes 12 years in prison. She bursts into tears when she is convicted and she confides to her lawyer that she is frustrated that she came so close to setting up the Anna Delvey Foundation, failing very little. However, she feels understood by the jury, by the people who followed the trial.
To date Anna Sorokin is out of prison. She was released into custody on February 11, 2021, pending deportation from the country. In total she spent 40 months in prison, serving only 3 years of her initial sentence. In the series finale we see how both Vivian and Todd are deeply shaken by what happened. They know very well that this sentence will develop both their careers, but that the price to pay is in the exemplary sentence that Anna has obtained. If Vivian’s article hadn’t met with such media coverage, she probably would have gotten a lighter sentence or she would have been acquitted of other charges.
In the final scene of the series we see the last meeting in prison between Anna and Vivian: the girl insists that the journalist promises to come and see her also during the following prison period. We discover that Vivian has loaned Anna the white dress that the girl was wearing on the day of the sentence.
