The news comes from Deadline that New Line has officially given the green light to a sequel to Mortal KombatThe studio also hired Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight; The Umbrella Academy) to write the script. According to Business Insider, Mortal Kombat was the most popular home release for Warner Bros. and HBO Max last year, garnering over 3.8 million views during its opening weekend. It also earned over $83.6 million at the worldwide box office. Conversely, much more anticipated titles like Godzilla vs. Kong and The Suicide Squad totaled only 3.6 million and 2.8 million families in the first three days.
