The Expanse Season 6

The six-episode final season did a fantastic job of wrapping up the emotional and political storylines that defined so much of this phenomenal series. To find out if a season 7 will see the light of day, read this. Otherwise, we tell you everything about the end of Season 6 of The Expanse!

Laconia Announces A Future

Terrified of the dark-eyed boy who claims to be his son, Xan’s father calls in the army of Laconia, a decision that could have disastrous consequences. In The Expanse book series, Admiral Winston Duarte experiments on Cara and Xan to strengthen his own bond with the Protomolecule. By sending soldiers in search of the runaway children of Laconia, he knocks down the first domino towards this future.

Season 6 of The Expanse continues to hint that Winston Duarte will be a future major villain. He was seen ogling the Protomolecule warship from the Season 5 finale, and the ship is now kicking into gear after Paolo Cortázar proudly stated in Episode 4 that the Protomolecule sample had started to respond. The message is clear: Duarte, Laconia and this giant ship will become a major force in the future of The Expanse.

Who Are The Entities?

In Season 6 of The Expanse, Naomi investigates Entity-related disappearances from starships that failed to make it through the Ringgate safely, including the Barkeith. She discovers that the phenomenon occurs when a large amount of energy has passed through the network.

Holden has speculated that the continued passages through the Ring Gate anger the Entities, and that if humans continue to use the gates, the god-like alien species may awaken for good.

Is Marco Dead?

Due to the shortness of the season, Season 6 had to drastically reduce the scope of its story. One of the main plot threads was the rise of Marco Inaros, leader of the Free Navy. While Marco started his career on the show as a near-sympathetic figure, he’s become a real villain in this final season. In the end, it is Naomi who eliminates Marco, even if she is helped along the way…

THE EXPANSE

After Marco and his Free Navy fleet get past the combined military forces of Earth, Mars, and the Belter splinters, the Roci and a handful of the assault team members are all that’s left between Marco and the control of the Ring Gate. The Roci are ready to make a stand, but the odds are not in their favor.

Naomi hatches a plan: throw as much mace as possible through the Ringgate as Marco passes through it, thus triggering the mysterious Ring Entities. The plan works, and Marco cannot escape his sci-fi fate.

The Expanse Season 6 Ending Explained

The Expanse Season 6  doesn’t feature a traditional post-credits scene, but the credits themselves hint at a potential future for the series. Traditionally, the end credits of The Expanse have the distinctive image of the Ring Gate as their backdrop. At the end of Season 6 of The Expanse, the Ring entities’ distinctive red ripples were added to the dark void, seemingly confirming Holden’s fear that the alien presence would only grow stronger if they summon the creatures against Mark.

And the bad news doesn’t stop there. In the center of the Ringgate scene of The Expanse end credits, one can also see what appears to be the outline of Winston Duarte’s Laconian Protomolecular warship. The end credits of The Expanse starkly remind viewers that two major threats still exist in the series: the future Laconian Empire and the ominous entities of the Ring. The credits of “Babylon’s Ashes” confirm that these forces are gaining strength and that they will arrive in a universe close to us very soon.

This dual setup could lead to Season 7 of The Expanse or, more likely, a cinematic conclusion spanning the final three books. It remains to be seen how The Expanse intends to end its many hints, but the fact that it openly flags future plots strongly suggests that reports of the Rocinante retreat have been greatly exaggerated.
