Jonasi Gomora is a self-made entrepreneur, and through determination and insight, he has become one of the country’s most influential CEOs, a symbol of success and respectability. Joyce, a beloved wife and famous social media figure, is a constant presence in his life, with whom he forms a seemingly perfect couple. Behind that facade, however, lies a very different reality: Jonasi leads a private life marked by parallel relationships, secrets, and compromises that over time become increasingly difficult to manage. When some truths begin to surface, many things begin to crumble. The events develop through the point of view of the women involved in its existence: wives, lovers, and family members who, each in their own way, find themselves having to deal with the consequences of men’s choices. As conflicts escalate and relations strain, Jonasi is forced to face the darker side of his ambition.
The series is based on the novel of the same name, published in 2012 by Sue Nyathi. Its publishing history is particularly significant: the book was initially self-published after several rejections by publishing houses, and then transformed into a literary sensation thanks to word of mouth from readers. Since then, the television adaptation project has gone through over a decade of attempts, postponements, and production changes, finally finding its way to Netflix.

Polygamous is available on Netflix starting June 12, 2026, in all countries where the service is active. The first season consists of 22 episodes.
