The Old Guard 2 Ending Explained: What is Neil’s Power and What Happened to Andy?

The Old Guard 2 Ending Explained: The Old Guard 2 continues the story of Andy and his group of immortals, who in the previous film were forced to exile one of the members of their group (after he betrays them), in addition to discovering that their leader is no longer immortal. And that the world is increasingly dangerous for them. In the sequel, Andy (Charlize Theron) and his group of warriors are working alongside Agent Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor), whom they met in the previous movie, to continue secretly protecting humanity, but this time they also have to face characters who are just like them (more or less). On the one hand, we have Quynh, who was Andy’s ally in the past, before she was captured, locked in an iron coffin, and thrown into the sea, where she was trapped for several centuries. Quyhn thinks Andy abandoned her, so now he seeks revenge on her and the rest of the group. But Quynh is not alone; she is working with an ancient and powerful immortal named Discord (Uma Thurman), who has his reasons for confronting Andy. For Andy and his group, this sparks a series of problems and conflicts, and they go through some of the most brutal (some internal) battles of their lives.

The film, directed by Victoria Mahoney, begins by showing how Quỳnh (Vân Veronica Ngô) managed to escape from the prison in which she had remained for centuries. Discord (Uma Thurman), another immortal, freed her. For what purpose? The only thing clear at that point is that Quỳnh seeks revenge on all those who caused her that suffering and on the friend who did not rescue her. To locate her, turn to Booker/Sebastian Le Livre. Meanwhile, the protagonist of “The Old Guard 2”, who is no longer immortal, and his team complete a mission in Split, Croatia. When they complete it, they take a break and separate. Joe /Yusuf Al-Kaysani (Marwan Kenzari) mentions that he needs some time alone, but Nicky/Nicolò di Genova (Luca Marinelli) suspects that he is hiding something, so she follows him along with Nile Freeman (KiKi Layne), and they discover that he is still in contact with Booker.

The Old Guard 2 Ending Explained: What is Neil’s Power and What Happened to Andy?

Nicky confronts Joe about his secret, but Nile interrupts the argument by revealing that Booker was kidnapped. Meanwhile, Quỳnh interrogates Booker, who insists that he does not know the location of Andromache, who at the time visits an old friend, Tuah (Henry Golding), to understand Nile’s dreams. Tuah reveals that the woman who appears in Nile’s visions is Discord, the first of the immortals. She witnessed the sentence of Quỳnh and for centuries has gathered wealth and power, not to fear any enemy. Why is he after Andy and his friends? He stole Tuah’s reports on the group, so he knows almost everything about them. Therefore, the protagonists are in danger. When Quỳnh gets no response from Booker, he sends him to Andy with a message. Despite everything and due to Discord’s threat, the group welcomes Booker with open arms. After reading his old friend’s message, Andy decides to go to the appointment, but Neil doesn’t allow her to go alone.

However, it promises to remain at a safe distance. After the emotional reunion and the corresponding talk, the friends get into a fight that ends with the appearance of Discord. Andy understands that Quỳnh is allied with the villain, and Neil decides to follow the mysterious woman. Upon arriving at a church, Discord reveals that they are linked, since they are the first and last immortals. He also mentions that the young woman has great power. What is it about, and why do you need it?

What Happened to Quynh?

Quynh is one of the “villains” in The Old Guard 2. After spending year after year underwater, condemned to drown and then revive again and again (as seen in the first film), she seeks revenge, motivated by grief, rage, and the thought that Andy abandoned her. This leads her to join forces with Discord, who has plans of his own.

But Quynh doesn’t just want revenge on Andy; she wants to destroy the world and cause everyone the same level of suffering she experienced (by unleashing a nuclear explosion). Fortunately, Andy manages to reach out to her and convince her to change her plan, preventing a massive tragedy. But this is all part of Discord’s plan, who needed Quynh to get closer to Andy’s group and carry out his plan of destruction. By the end, the two begin to work together and must find a way to rescue the rest of the team, who had been kidnapped by Discord.

What About Nile and Her Powers?

The first film introduced Nile (KiKi Layne) as a new immortal, who joins Andy’s group after they discover her identity. Nile struggles to deal with this new reality and what it entails, but she slowly comes to terms with it and also discovers who she really is. The Old Guard 2 reveals that Nile is the last of the immortals and, as such, has a special power. Not only can Nile take immortality from any immortal she harms, but she can also take that immortality and give it to someone who has lost it, which is what happened to Andy in the first film.

Who is Discord Really and What is He Looking For?

Discord, played by Uma Thurman, is one of the oldest immortals and a powerful enemy, but the sequel reveals that she lost her immortality some time ago and is searching for a way to get it back. Discord’s quest is to find Nile, whom he wants to force into using her power to steal others’ immortality and help her become immortal again. Eventually, Discord manages to capture Nile, Joe, Tuah (a new immortal who has extensive knowledge of their origins and history, and is in charge of a bookstore that houses the secrets of the immortals), and Agent Copley, and he plans to try to obtain her immortality.

What About Booker?

Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) was exiled from the group after Andy discovers he betrayed them, but he’s looking for a way to redeem himself, and this leads him to make a sacrifice that changes everything.

Booker sacrifices his immortality so Andy can become immortal again, and so she and the rest of the group can stop Quynh and Discord. After losing his immortality, he confronts Discord’s men and dies in battle. It’s a dramatic moment, but Booker gets the ending he wanted: to die and be reunited with his son.

What Happened to Andy and His Team?

While Nicky, Joe, and Tuah are kidnapped by Discord, Booker reveals to Andy that he gave her his immortality so that he can finally rest, and she continues fighting for her purpose. Andromache does not understand what is happening, but tries to protect her friend, who dies in battle. Meanwhile, Neil confronts Quỳnh, who is injured and loses her immortality. Before Neil can understand what’s going on, Discord shows up, stabs her, and kidnaps her. Andy struggles to get his friends back, but can’t get over Discord, who reveals his true motivation: he lost his immortality and plans to take it from Andromache’s friends with the help of Neil. At the end of “The Old Guard 2”, Andy encounters Quỳnh, who realizes his mistake and sets out to help his friend recover the other immortals before Discord completes his plans. All of this leaves the way prepared for a third film in which Andy will face Discord to save his friends.

What Does Discord Want and How Does it Connect with Nile?

The great revelation of “The Old Guard 2” is the arrival of Discord, the first immortal. Even older than Andy, she has a deep knowledge of all the members of the group and their ties. He rescued Quynh and convinced her to join his cause, promising her revenge and justice for the centuries of torture she had endured. Her true plan is much more sinister: capture the immortals, force Nile to wound them one by one, and thus cause the forced transfer of her power to herself. In other words, he wants to stop being mortal again, using Nile as a catalyst. To do this, he captures everyone except Andy and a deadly Quynh, opening the door to a final battle in a hypothetical third part.

Can This Transfer of Power Be Repeated in Part 3?

Although there is no official confirmation, everything indicates that there will be a third installment. The transfer mechanism has been left open to interpretation and is likely to be explored further below. If Discord has lost his immortality, his logical goal will be to replicate what Booker did: use Nile to regain his power. The interesting thing is that now Quynh is also deadly, which calls into question its future. Will Andy be the one to give him his power as a form of redemption? Or will we see Nile face a moral dilemma as he becomes the key to taking and returning eternal lives? The franchise moves further and further away from the original comic and enters an unpublished mythological terrain, which may be both its greatest virtue and its greatest risk.

The Transformation of Quynh?

Quynh, whose madness had been hinted at since the first installment, reappears as a figure disturbed by centuries of suffering. Although he initially allies himself with Discord to destroy humanity, his final confrontation with Andy changes the course of the story. Nile manages to mortally wound her, which takes away her immortality. Sitting with the detonator in her hand, ready to end everything, she ends up giving in thanks to Andy’s words.

The scene makes clear the complex relationship between the two: the pain of abandonment, resentment, but also a love that seems intact. Quynh’s arc could have provided much more, but it is resolved somewhat quickly.

Discord’s Plan, the Real Threat?

Discord, a new villain who proclaims herself the first immortal, had a clear goal: to steal Nile’s power and absorb the abilities of the rest of the team. He planned to manipulate Quynh and lure the group to the nuclear plant. His motivation is to regain his immortality, which he has apparently lost. The most disconcerting thing about Discord is the ambiguity of its ultimate goal. Do you want to dominate the world? End the immortals? Become a lone deity? Nothing is clear. His lack of development as an antagonist and the confusion about his true plans hinder part of the outcome, although it lays the foundations for a third installment.

Will There Be Part 3 of The Old Guard?

Although Netflix has not officially confirmed a third installment, the ending of “The Old Guard 2” makes it clear that the story is far from over. Andy and Quynh, both now human, must face Discord and rescue their team, with the risk that the first immortal will be able to absorb everyone’s power. Booker’s sacrifice, Andy’s awakening as an immortal again, and Nile’s latent danger as a catalyst turn this saga into a story of modern mythology where immortality is no longer a gift, but a choice… and a burden.
