The Trunk Ending Explained: The Trunk, 2024 is an intense Korean drama that mixes romance and psychological thriller, starring Seo Hyeon-jin and Gong Yoo. The series follows Noh In-ji, a woman disenchanted with love who works at New Wedding, a company that organizes temporary marriages. He meets Han Jeong-won, a music producer who is marked by his tragic past. They both fight their demons as they try to find out if they can trust love again. The Trunk Ending Explained: What Happens to In-ji and Jeong-Won?

In the climax of The Trunk, In-ji makes a brave decision to protect Jeong-won from stalker Tae-seong, a man with a history of violence who has been stalking her for years. Tae-seong steals The Trunk from Jeong-won’s house which contains documents that could expose New Wedding’s operation and ruin his reputation. In-ji tries to negotiate with Tae-seong, but he manipulates her and sends her location to Jeong-won to orchestrate a confrontation. When Jeong-won arrives, Tae-seong tries to attack him, but In-ji stops him by pointing a discharged pistol at him. Tae-seong escapes with the suitcase, only to be killed later by Ji-o, Seo-yeon’s temporary husband, who acted both for personal revenge and to protect NM. The recovered suitcase contains no secrets, but memories of the son that Jeong-won and Seo-yeon never had, which unleashes a wave of emotions and revelations about their failed marriage.

What About Seo-yeon and Ji-o?

Seo-yeon, Jeong-won’s ex-wife, was the epicenter of many conflicts. It is revealed that he manipulated Jeong-won for years, even providing him with methamphetamines in the form of pills to ruin his life. Ji-o, who was temporarily married to Seo-yeon, becomes Tae-seong’s killer, fueled by his hatred for him and his desire to protect Seo-yeon. Although Ji-o is arrested, Seo-yeon decides to renew his marriage contract, showing that they are both caught in a complicated but deeply interconnected relationship.

Not being officially married, but having developed mutual feelings, In-ji and Jeong-won take their separate paths, although the music producer tells him they would leave everything to chance; that is to say, if they were naturally twice, it was a sign to be together. Then they say goodbye. While he moves to another place and lives with his two cats, she also searches for her own space. Each one prioritizes their integrity and well-being before having a partner. One day by chance, they meet on a street in Seoul, and both are happy to see each other. Who Is Eom Taesang’s Murderer? 

One question that engulfed the audience was knowing who had murdered Eom Taesang, whose body was found in the lake. Remember that this NM self-defense instructor became so obsessed with In-ji that he once killed one of the company’s guardians to claim his beloved“. After the crime, NM only admitted him to a mental health center and did not want to prosecute him because they did not want a scandal about the existence of this agency. Upon leaving, the individual again went after the woman. Given this, the protagonist tells Jeong-won that he is more dangerous to those around her than to herself; what’s more, he tells her your desire to murder him.

Returning to the moment when In-ji goes to the lake and cannot open The Trunk because it is not hers, Taesang attacks her, luckily Jeong-won arrives.
